In my opinion, the most over played song of 2012 was "Wanted" from newer country singer Hunter Hayes. His newest song named "Somebody's Heart Break" to me is the only song from him right now that is really worth anything.
I've never heard it called a payphone, there's no need to be so catty :P
..anyway on reflection, Flo Rida's Whistle was another one. It wasnt overplayed *that* much on the radio but you would still hear it there and in shops etc and they never bleeped it out or anything..and I just found the attitude in it really disturbing. Flo Rida just seems pretty sexist though in general.

To be fair, I've had to use public telephones (whatever we call them in the UK) recently too.
I'd have to say Starships by Nicki Minaj. But the thing is, I ONLY heard it on the radio. I never heard it anywhere else (e.g. in a club, in someone else's car, at a party, at uni, etc.). But the song's radio airplay alone was so annoying, and it couldn't have happened to a less deserving song. At least a song like Somebody That I Used to Know is quite unique and extremely catchy, so you think "fair enough" when it's overplayed.
You should come to my uni then! It's on constantly in the Student's Union.
If you have Heart on, I think every second song is Moves Like Jagger, or thereabouts. i'm sure sometimes they skip the news and play Moves Like Jagger instead. Sometimes when it's not playing it doesn't feel right, you have to smack the side of the radio and it'll soon be back on within 30 seconds.
i`ll give you the top 10, which i read on `the uk radio airplay chart` website on new years eve, before they wiped the `year to date` listing.
1 domino - jessie j
2 somebody that i used to know - gotye
3 call me maybe - carly rae jepsen
4 payphone - maroon 5
5 next to me - emeli sandé
6 titanium - david guetta feat. sia
7 dance with me tonight - olly murs
8 moves like jagger - maroon 5 feat. christina aguilera
9 stronger (what doesn't kill you) - kelly clarkson
10 starships - nicki minaj
I'm not too surprised that Domino by Jessie J topped that actually because it even seemed to be played on Radio 2 on an almost daily basis earlier last year. However, I am surprised that Carly Rae Jepsen was in third place: I'd have thought it would have been played far more than Gotye.
"Shine Bright Like A Diamond!" I swear if I hear that line one more time I will scream bloody murder!!!!
Gangnam Style needs to be left in 2012, as does anything by Nicki Minaj!!!
I severely hope the aforementioned songs don't end up on 2013's Most Played list!!!
Yes, yes and yes! I had a bit of a semi heated discussion when I met up with friends about recent big songs earlier in the week. The conversation turned to 'Diamonds' by Rihanna and I said that 'you and I, we're like diamonds in the sky' and 'shine bright like a diamond' just didn't cut it lyrically. The crux of my argument is that if it's seriously all the writers can come up with, it's pitiful. Ok, there have always been songs with simple lyrics but the lyrics to 'Diamonds' are some of the most banal in recent years.
It's just asinine to call it a 'brilliant' song. What is brilliant about it? It's just retreading old ground and sounds similar to pretty much most of her output for the last 4 years.
I agree with your feelings on Gangnam Style and Nicki Minaj too. That 'Starships' is another example of banal lyrics - for goodness' sake, they resort to quoting 'Twinkle Twinkle little star.' Give me a break!
Really? Titanium was actually the ONLY good thing David Guetta had a hand in in 2012. Plus if you honestly think she has a bad voice you need to be in a straightjacket & padded cell. Sia can sing.
I agree, I loved her vocals on Wild Ones.... awesome!

Rant over.
If i mentioned this song to my brother he would rant the same way You are right though, it is awful.
We Are Young, Somebody We Used To Know, Titanium and Domino are the ones that spring to mind, which is a shame, because they were brilliant songs, the first 100 times I heard them
Also Starships and Call Me Maybe, but they weren't ruined by the over playing, as I never really liked that much.
Indeed, the release of these songs early in the year and never ending playing of them helped them become the biggest-sellers but they no longer feel fresh as a result. Although We Are Young was among my top 20, I was prepared to switch radio stations to avoid it. I even avoided listening to Payphone a couple of times to secure its place as my 2nd fave song of the year.

God bless you and him always!!!

Forgot about that one. I've lost track of how many times I've seen that one on music channels.

Yeah, I thought that too.
Similarly (at least on the music channels) I couldn't escape the 2011 LMFAO "hilarious" Sexy and I Know it!
The Script - Hall of Fame is starting to do my nut in as well.

Candy.
Wild Ones.
All of them absolutely terrible songs.
One of for sure, it also one of those songs that sticks in your head................and that isn't a good thing.
There's no escaping this
