Blue Jasmine
I haven't seen a thread on this yet. I've read good reviews of this film, but I was disappointed. I normally love Woody Allen's films, however for anyone who has seen "A Street Named Desire" this movie will be a poor copy. Woody tried to modernise the Streetcar story, but instead it became completely illogical. Nothing really makes sense in this film. Cate gives a fantastic performance though!

Why does't it makes sense? It's loosely based on a true story.
I didn't know it was based on a true story. I thought Woody Allen filmed his version of A Streetcar Named Desire. I just found it very rushed in places, like for instance...
I don't think many of those questions you asked really matter. What I liked about the film is that that it never answered too much. It was ambigious all the way through. Even all the way through. Again many films are like this. The film was about Jasmine's state of mind, not why her sister's marriage fell apart and they were not going to expand on that because it didn't need to be.
Hmmm...
The stories are almost identical, albeit with a modern twist in Blue Jasmine, but whereas everything in Streetcar is logical, Blue Jasmine just leaves you thinking... "What's the point"
I really liked Blue Jasmine, but I do agree it's VERY like Streetcar, the similarities are undeniable. Alot of people thought it was a poor imitation, you're not alone there. I personally like both, I think with blue Jasmine, the perfromances were breathtaking and I really got caught up in those, and I thought it was wonderful, not without it's faults but for me one of the best films of the year. I guess we all have different tastes, it's not for everyone.
OK, there's not that much to it, but Cate Blanchett's powerhouse performance totally sells it, and nobody writes women's roles like Woody Allen - has any other writer written more Oscar-winning roles for actresses than Woody?
Cate Blanchett is mesmerizing.
