I guess you are of a different generation but recording onto VHS was as natural as sky plussing something. It was how we did things. I recorded so much, some things I recorded, watched and recorded over immediately, somethings I kept. I no longer have unfortunately but one of the most memorable was a 1986 history of the pop promo presented by John Peel and John Walters. I recorded it when it was rebroadcast on 1987's election night.
i had quite a large collection of stuff i recorded off the telly. But most of it i have now replaced with DVD
Prisoner Cell Block H
Cracker
Fawlty Towers
Father Ted
Birds Of A Feather
Men Behaving Badly
One Foot In The Grave
Only Fools & Horses
Oz
Prime Suspect
Columbo
A Touch Of Frost
The Simpsons
I recorded every single episode of Prisoner Cell Block H from TV. Stacks and stacks of tapes as I recorded them all in SP. .... long since replaced with DVDs.

LOADS! Still have a fair few tapes of stuff still not available by other means... Xmas always used to be the peak time for videoing stuff... Ah, happy days...
I'm moving soon so I have just thrown away about 200 recorded VHS tapes. Lots of different things such as Frasier and the Flying Doctors. I expect most things are available on DVD now. Also, if you have cable or satellite tv lots of old programmes are constantly being repeated.
I used to video music videos and concerts. When I got a dvd recorder, I then copied them to disc. Just as well, as some of the tapes snapped after I played them to copy them.
I recorded many of the comedy series, including about 40 Dad's Army shows (unaware that they would still be broadcast decades later). There's no way I would throw my collection (or my audio tapes) which I still play. They are part of broadcasting history.
I have a dvd/vhs recording combo and at the moment I'm recording Treasure Hunt onto VHS as the dvd recorder has packed up .
In fact VHS recording is far more reliable the dvd recording as the laser for DVD has only a short shelf life and that makes the dvd recorder uesless . You have no such problems with VHS .
I'm taping Arrow right now. It's still easier sometimes, especially if you don't intend to keep something and don't want to waste space on a hard disk. I am slowly weaning myself off it, though.

Yes i had well over 150 tapes of Prisoner
Such a damn addictive show
A couple of films:
Mr Love
Prospero's Books
Which was a good move as neither were ever available on DVD.
TV series:
Land of the tiger
Of course, they are all transferred to disk, now.
Very true.
It takes so long to re-watch them that you want to start again from the beginning once you have finished.
Way to go
I still have mine but not used it for 5 years. i don't know how to fix it to my tv
I use to record everything
