Ok, so I placed an order last week for a couple of items on Amazon during the "Black Friday sales", and expected delivery was supposed to be between Dec 4-8th.

As of today, the items are still being "Prepared for Shipment" and I can still request cancellation for the items if I wished, which means they have still not shipped them.

I am hoping i'll get it by Dec 8th as said, but has anyone ever had this experience before?

I have ordered lots of things from Amazon and I usually get this email, then the next day or so there's another email saying item has been dispatched. I find that things usually arrive sooner than time indicated so always on the look out for a delivery. :)

Amazon's delivery process is such a mystery that I don't think even they know how it works :)

I've placed several orders with them for CDs over the years and it still baffles me why they cannot just stick them all in the same box and send just one parcel. Numerous times I have had two e-mails arrive within seconds of each other telling me that "to speed up your delivery we are sending part of your order now". Each e-mail listing a different selection of the disks I ordered.

Both get sent from the same place on the same day and arrive on the same day. So why two parcels?

And their estimated delivery times are often a work of fiction. Especially the one's they show just after you have ordered. Though have to say they are usually pessimistic, ie I usually get the items before the last date they specify and sometimes before the first date as well!

So chances are you'll get the order by Monday. If it doesn't arrive on Monday then start poking them on Tuesday.

And often the box is ridiculously large in comparison to the contents. I sometimes wonder if a packing company gets paid according to the size of the box. <rolls eyes>

Yeah I had this earlier in November. Dispatch date kept slipping, estimated delivery date was two days after I ordered and it finally arrived 9 days after I ordered. It was through one of their marketplace sellers rather than Amazon themselves though.

Their website gets worse and more frustrating by the day, i.e obscuring the actual final price (none of this "it's this priceif you get our credit card/prime/this is an item you have to order more than a £10 at a time to buy crap") untl it's time to press the commit to buy button so I've sacked them off.

That is probably because they don't always come from the same fulfillment center.

I've had them where they all appear to be coming from the same source. Though whether that really means they are coming from the same physical location or not is anybody's guess.

Depends which postal option you chose.

But saying that. I bought a DVD and some Lotus biscuits on Thursday at 12.30am arrived on Friday at 11am. And, I selected the free postage option!

Just to say if you are near one of the 2 B&M stores in Lincs Lotus biccies are very cheap and nearly always in stock, well they are where I live anyway. You'll get a shock when you compare B&M's prices to Amazon!

They sent me a book once by mistake, the intended recipient was the Archbishop of Armagh.

Can't say anyone else has ever mistaken me for him before.

    .
Youcertainly have to keep your eyes peeled and read everything very carefully. I always select free delivery and click on the right buttons during the purchase process to make sure it remains free. On the right hand side of the page it calculates cost of delivery (if any) I don't complete the purchase until I've checked that there are no delivery charges. The delivery cost on some items can be more than the cost of what you are buying. :o

Did you contact the Archbishop? And what was the book he was ordering?

Yes I did have a conversation with amazon customer services about it. I can't remember the title but it wasn't fiction, it was a university press book about philosophy if I recall correctly.

    LOL thats true!

I ordered a TV/Monitor off them once, got an "item dispatched" email....only to then receive a few days later "item damaged in transit".

I eventually got through to a human being at Amazon who was full of apologies etc etc, then tried to fob me off with a lower spec Monitor at the the same price!! >:( I refused and demanded a refund.

I then called the Courier as i still had the tracking number and he told me 1)they'd had no recent damaged items and 2)they'd not collected any Monitors on that day.

When i looked back on the Amazon site, the Monitor i'd ordered was listed as 'currently unavailable'. Truth be known i don't think it ever was 'available'!

Not sure about your issue but I am always wary about buying off Amazon as , quite often , I'm unsure what the postage fees are going to be .
The postage is always nice and clear on eBay.

I am also waiting for some things but I was wondering if the delays are linked to the Hermes issue last week so I expect they will arrive this week - I have found Amazon excellent service before so I will be patient

    It couldn't be clearer.
At checkout you see the price of the item plus postage.
Change the speed of delivery options on the left and you get a new price.
Free delivery supposedly takes longer but always arrives before the date given.

Phew - that's a relief. It could have been mightily embarassing. ;-)

The last few things I've bought from Amazon have been delivered on a sunday.
I've also been caught out when they say delivery in 3-5 days but that's only once its been dispatched, which can take anything from 30mins to 3 weeks.

I signed up for a trial of Amazon Prime on Monday, ordered a PC component from them on the same day, and selected the fastest delivery option 'expidited 3 day delivery'. (Thursday delivery at the latest). Estimated delivery date is now Friday (ie Yesterday), and I'm still waiting.

Phoned them this morning, but they're unable to track the item, even though it's sold by Amazon themselves. Guy on the phone sounded like a robot or something. Not much help, anyway. I'll just have to wait, I suppose.

Wish I'd went with one of the specialist PC component vendors now. As for Amazon Prime......
