I now see the thread is about food, when I saw the header I thought it was going to be about gypsies:D
And of course it will give those nice mods something to do by shiftng it to food & drink
Those aren't pikelets, those are anaemic crumpets. He may be a decent cook, but it looks like he wouldn't know a proper pikelet if it jumped up and bit him on the arse.
I remember once in a game of Mallett's Mallett ( the word association game; you mustn't pause, you mustn't hesitate etc ) a girl said 'pikelet' after her opponent said 'pancake'. Mallett asked her to repeat herself twice, looked totally perplexed and clonked her with the mallett. The poor girl lost the game >:(
My opinion on pikelets? I prefer them to crumpets. The doughy middle part of a crumpet is what spoils it imo

'piklets are thin crumpets'....
You passed the test

can`t stand raisins in them, i like big, fat, hot crumpets slathered with chocolate spread.
Different in so many ways.
Well from my part of the country they are not.
They look nothing like crumpets though.
Neither has Timmy Mallett.

..they look, and taste, pretty much like thin crumpets to me
Those are raisin pancakes. Certainly nothing like a crumpet as you say.
