Copyright on Christmas Carols for book
Hi,
I'm an artist and I was wondering about the copy right on Christmas carols for an illustration book? I've googled and googled but haven't been successful!
I found a list of all the Christmas carols that have a traditional copyright / in the public domain. If i were to illustrate a Christmas carol book and publish it as an e-book would this be legal?

Basically, as long as the composer or arranger died more than 70 years ago (UK law), then the music is no longer copyright.
However, copyright may still exist in the printed copy you've found, so you can't just scan the book and re-use it.
I haven't found a print, I am an artist so I wanted to use the lyrics to Christmas songs that aren't under copyright and illustrate the book myself. So no scanning and reusing!
Then you should be fine, as long as the lyricist's copyright has expired - this may be different to the composer!
