Wife's taking me tomorrow evening when she comes back from work. £3 from a breeder not far from us. She won't let us have a dog or cat so this is the next best thing I suppose. He has 3 left, black and white, 9 weeks old, so have the choice from those. Have cage and everything, rooling ball too, from when daughter had one before. Just need food and shavings and bedding tomorrow. Found him on Gumtree.

I am excited. :)

What do you want us to comment on?

Do you want us to congratulate you?

    I'm planning a shopping trip tomorrow....should I start a thread?

Lots of famous people have hamsters. Richard Gere for instance.

Why do you need your wife to take you? According to your profile you're 51 years old, can't you go by yourself?

Why does this remind me of Family Guy when Peter falls off the swing?

No. Bus fares or mini-cab fares are a lot. She's only charging me £5 both ways door-to-door.

You are never too old to have a pet! My late hubby always wanted a rabbit when he was a kid...so I bought him one complete with cage etc for his 50th birthday...he LOVED that bunny! ( Unfortunately not enough to clean it out and feed it every day!!!):o

So what's her reasoning for you getting a hamster, but not a cat or dog?

Are you willing to clean it out every other day?

Or running along and falling and grazing his knee.

    You should call it Fido.

I do like the look of hamsters going round in those rooling balls.

What? Your wife is charging you a fiver to go and pick up a hamster? You have to be on a wind-up here.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier and cheaper just to adopt one (or all) of your mice as pets instead?
