For years there was no modern xmas songs always repeats of Band Aid 1984 and Wham but there's been some decent tracks some done better than others over the years.
Here's my modern xmas playlist:
The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)
Coldplay - Christmas Lights
Band Aid 30 - Do they do it's Christmas?
Glasvegas - Please Come Back Home
Gabrielle Aplin - Power Of Love
Leona Lewis - One More Sleep
What's your favourite modern classics?

Hopefully they'll release another one this year.
I'm trying to think of others that I've really liked, but most of them are just covers of other Christmas songs.... oh, I do really like Oh! Santa by Mariah too, I think that's a great track! Not to serious, but very festive (obviously it's no All I Want... )
arent they very good?
or is there a corporate conspiricy to keep spoon feeding us the same old crap? ok, i accept that alot of old crimbo songs are good ones and have become part of crimbo as much as carols have.... but after 40 years of hearing 'iiiits chhrrissstmassss' it /they have completely lost their appeal.
I have a soft spot for the Status Quo one , "It's Christmas Time" from a couple of years back, it ticks all the right boxes compared to the 70s classics, cheesy lyrics, cheesy video... check it out...

I have a feeling that we'll be hearing Peter Kay's/Geraldine's efforts of years to come.
Proper Crimbo is a new classic but the video is so outdated.
Actually, I love all of the songs on Wilde's Winter Songbook. It's a really good Christmas album.
Cheeky Girls - Have a Cheeky Christmas
The Darkness - Christmas Time
Leona - One More Sleep
Avid Merrion/ Bo Selecta - Proper Crimbo
I LOOOVE that record!!!
Black Christmas by Poly Styrene
and
All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day by Hurts
There's also 'It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas' by the Pet Shop Boys, first released exclusively to their fan club in 1997 but then beefed up and released officially in 2009 - ironically on one of the coldest winters for decades! I saw them at the O2 that Christmas when tons couldn't make the gig due to heavy snowfall, which made the performance of that song very ironic - something Neil Tennant gleefully noted when introducing.
Smith and Burrows.. When the thames froze
However, my personal favourite of the last 15 years is 'Proper Chrimbo' by Bo Selecta
Kate Winslet - What If
Not Tonight Santa - Girls Aloud
Santa Baby - Kylie Minogue
Winter Wonderland - The Saturdays (Radio 1 Live Lounge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOES4jhzuSE)
Tears and Tinsel - Northern Kind
Driving Home for Christmas - Stacey Solomon
Christmas Tree - Lady Gaga
White Christmas - Lady Gaga (jazz cover live from A Very Gaga Holiday)
Have A Cheeky Christmas - The Cheeky Girls
The Saturdays are rumoured to be releasing a Christmas album and I heard they're releasing a soundtrack song for a festive movie called Christmas Wrapping. I'm looking forward to that if it's true
N*Sync - Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (That might be just over 15 years though)
Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree
I can't believe my all time favorite Christmas song - Mariah's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' Is now 20 years old! it makes me feel very old too!
I must check that out. I wonder if it is a return to the classic style of christmas songs?
Good one Sally, I love that tune.
Also George Michael's December Song and even the Spice Girls cover of Christmas Wrapping is quite good.
