Big Brother 2013 ratings remain low for second live launch show
There was no rise in the Big Brother 2013 ratings last night, as the live launch continued.
This year’s split launch night started on Thursday evening, but just 2.13 million viewers tuned in for the start of the new series.
Former Bit On The Side host Emma Willis is in charge for this fourteenth run, but the show got off to a rough start with its lowest launch night viewing figures in history.
Negative spin from tellymix.
The article continues with one grudging semi-compliment:
"Last night the live launch continued, as a further six housemates entered the house before a surprise nomination twist was revealed.
An average audience of 2.11 million viewers watched the second instalment, so at least the numbers remained relatively consistent.
But Bit On The Side continued to struggle with new hosts AJ and Rylan afterwards, with less than a million viewers tuning in from 10:30PM."
That's helpful: less than a million for BOTS! Thursday's had 744k (5.8%), +1: 101k (1.6%) so I don't think anyone would have expected a sudden surge to a million, regardless of widespread fascination with Rylan's gnashers.
How did BOTS and live streaming [on 5* and c5] rate ?
BOTS and C5 streaming were largely unchanged from Thursday's figures. I will post exact averages later.
5* streaming underperformed badly with roughly 70k across the two hours and a peak of just over 100k. Live feed is definitely never coming back with those figures, but we knew that already. Might help if they promoted the 5* streaming a bit, though.
Started really low but steadily grew. Peak looks fine.
It did start low didn't it, but it rated really well on the whole. The break has done it good going by these figures and I am sure Channel 4 are happy. It combatted Big Brother well. I still opted for Big Brother though, and can I just say what an amazing start to the new series. Tensions are building already in the house, as are potential love between Jem and Sam and friendships. Score one for Channel 5.
Round 1 of McCall v Willis went to Willis. Million Pound Drop breakdown:.
Thanks: that includes +1 as well I assume. So an average during the head-to-head (21:00-22:30) of 1.67m (8.3%) for MPD against 2.11m (10.6%) for BB. MPD was scheduled to finish at 22:35 so the programme average may be a little lower depending on the exact finish time.

Peak of 2.10m (11.0%) at 22:00 for MPD, 2.36m (12.6%) at 22:10 for BB. MPD did a little better than I expected, but that also makes BB's stability more encouraging IMO. However, Horizon was a real blindsider on Thursday, which along with Mock the Week picked up quite a lot of the young audience, as noted by you Dancc:

Thank you. What does 5* normally get at that time? I had a feeling it would flop because despite what a few people on DS keep saying, most people just couldn't care less about live feed. Apart from Emma willis giving it a plug, Channel5 cant be blamed for this - it's ultimately up to the viewers to watch.

Remember the first live feed they did last year for CBB? That did badly, but then it picked up as the series went on.

Sure. But it gives us a rough idea of the kind of ratings it will be getting over the next week or two. It wont suddenly go up to 200,000 or more. It will be getting around 100k, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. Thats not very good really for the expense of live feed required.
I'm intrigued to see how the BB Psych show rates tonight. That was my favourite part of the Channel 4 era, and I hope it does well and can stick around. However, AJ is hosting.... (could have been worse - Rylan - I suppose).

For posterity, a bit from Broadcast about Thursday's Horizon:
Horizon: the Secret Life of the Cat (BBC2) 9pm-10pm
4.9m (22%)
The doc delivered nearly 5m viewers, winning the 9pm slot and more than doubling BBC2’s slot average of 1.85m (8.17%) for the past 12 months.
It was the strand’s biggest audience since 2000 when Mega Tsunamis [scored] 5.1m on 12 October.
The last time Horizon got over 3m viewers was in February 2008 when Lesley Regan exploded some myths about supermarket food in front of an audience of 3m (12.64%).
Neighbours seems very low at 5.30pm, but has 125k on +1. I've never seen the +1 figure that high before?
Well with the live feed airing from 7-9pm on 5* the repeat airing of Neighbours is now immediately after the C5 airing at 5.55pm (and seems to be a repeat, not a "first look"). I guess that would boost the +1 figures.

This is a terrible move. It's crushing Home and Away at 6:00pm. Just look at that figure. That's a good 250k lower than usual. I say scrap the live feed (I'm a fan of Big Brother before you say anything) or put it on from 7:30-9:00pm on 5* weekdays, this will allow Neighbours to air in its repeat slot at 7:00pm as usual and get Home and Away's figures back to normal (around 700k). Surely they could've seen the clash between Home and Away and Neighbours...
The live feed has resulted in 5* showing Neighbours at the same time as C5's Home and Away. This resulted in Home and Away losing viewers compared to before. Live feed has turned out to be a bad move overall based on initial impressions.

Yes, but the description makes clear this is a Psych version of BOTS.
5* is normally 100-180,000.
I stand corrected

Paul O Grady will also narrate a special tribute programme entitled 'The One and Only Cilla Black'

Stupid schedulers at 5*
100% agree! Poor Home and Away. It can't be dealt blows like this, not in its current state...
Oh Steptastic, Dancc confirmed earlier - The Walking Dead returns in the week of June 29! This month!
