Believe it or not, there are millions of people who work hard and just love to potter about their homes during bank holidays. Going out isn't the be all and end all for everyone. If I and others want to watch TV at Bank Holidays then that's up to us.

Fair enough as long as you don't expect special programming or demand that regular programmes (whose viewers appreciate the chance to view as normal on holidays) are taken off for the day as certain posters on these boards have been doing for the past couple of years

It really looks like those in charge have given up. The regular daytime programmes fair enough but even prime time looks shocking. That programme about Eric morcambe would be good if Miranda bleedin hart wasn't on it.

I certainly do expect a compromise schedule on Bank Holidays. BBC1 used to have a good daytime compromise by showing normal daytime in the morning and then holiday movies in the afternoon. However, this year they now have a virtually identical schedule (albeit with programmes shifted into different time slots) with a token film at 5 o Clock. I don't think it unreasonable for the main channels to make more effort. There are endless other channels to watch for normality.

Well, that was to be expected. In previous years, CBBC aired for over two hours in the afternoon- and that could easily be taken off for bank holidays. It's difficult for BBC1 to make adjustments with the schedule they have now. Personally, I don't think BBC1 should bother with Ratatouille at 5 o' clock and just run the schedule as normal. All it's done is shorten the news- bad form for a public service broadcaster

So do you believe that the majority of viewers these days would have difficulty in adjusting to a different schedule for a day or so? Have we become so robotic and monotonous that we have to live our lives by realising that a certain programme starts at a certain time every single day? That is a disappointing indictmenmt on society. In my opinion it is perfectly fine to have a holiday feel to a Bank Holiday schedule. people are not programmable puppets. I think they would cope with a Bank Holiday film or two on a bank holiday.

Maybe that's because the films the BBC show aren't very good/popular ones. This may unfortunately be because Sky movies has a lot of the classic films nowadays and the BBC has fewer film choices then what they used to have.

You NEVER get full length news bulletins on bank holidays and weekends, has nothing to do with them showing a tea time film, no idea what you mean by "bad form".

why do you guys expect different tv listing for Easter its not like Christmas

But it is. Apart from presents. Schools are shut and most parents are off work. And it will rain. Broadcasters have captive audiences crying out for feelgood family viewing.
what about easter sunday and easter monday listings

True, Easter Friday was never as big a TV event as the Sunday and Monday. Friday is too soon for people to be in the holiday mood.

My work still gives us Good Friday off but no longer gives us Easter Monday off. We now have to ask for Easter Monday off as part of our annual leave. So I asked to take Easter Monday off a good 7 or 8 weeks ago.

I know they never usually show full length bulletins on bank holidays or weekends (although it's strange you should bring weekends into it when I hadn't even mentioned them), I never said they did! The point I'm making is that it is somewhat strange for a channel to change the news and adjust little else (no Doctors, for no apparent reason, on Good Friday either) on a bank holiday, especially a public service broadcaster

no idea what you mean by "bad form".

BBC1 is just doing the bare minimum on Good Friday with the one Easter service and one film. Most will be out that day any-ways but it does show how different Good Friday is from the old days :)

not strange at all, its a bank holiday, a lot of the normal sources of news simply do not generate any. try watching one of the 24 hour news channels on a bank holiday, quite simply nothing is happening.

Unless something major happens which is rare but can happen. As we proof with Boxing Day in 2004 ;)

not strange at all, its a bank holiday, a lot of the normal sources of news simply do not generate any. try watching one of the 24 hour news channels on a bank holiday, quite simply nothing is happening.

Nice to see you didn't bother quoting the whole of my post, just selectively picking what you want...

And, actually, it is quite strange- all the foreign countries have full-length news bulletins on bank holidays. It is actually Britain that is out of step compared to the rest of the world on this one
