He was really good in tonight's episode, this storyline is developing quite quickly as well

I'm impressed by his acting skills too, it seems that the powers that be have cast a young man who can act rather than a catalogue model. Yay!

On Sam's twitter, he's got a banner of River Phoenix in My Own Private Idaho which is an iconic gay movie. I see that River is where Sam is drawing his inspiration as an actor. That's a terrific influence to have because River was sensitive, beautiful, tragic and intelligent, he is an icon to a lot of gay men and women.

    I noticed that too.

Whether Sam is gay or not, he looks like he's shaping up to be a good role model for gay people, especially the younger gays who may be in the same position as Johnny is at the moment, particularly with an overbearing father!

Exactly. He could even be in a position of not only validating the lives of closeted teens but illuminating them to the virtues of the gay sensibility - introspection, the sacred power of friendship, courage, humour, beauty and reverie. These are elements that Oscar Wilde strove for, the finer ideals of homosexuality beyond physical lust. Actors like River Phoenix personified that kind of spiritual beauty & if any young actors can pick up on that and channel those qualities in their own work, gay viewers will definitely feel like they DO have a place in the world after all.

He should just ignore it. If he plays up a sense of ambiguity, he will compel people even more.

How old is the actor and how old is the character? (If I'm allowed to ask...)

Oh look another one of these threads. Its no one's business and doesn't affect how he acts on the show. Why is everyone so bloody obsessed with sexuality?

He has been terrific. Whether the actor himself is gay or not is so irrelevant as to mean nothing at all.

I will say that it is probably easier for a straight guy to play gay as he has to unleash his/her imagination, which actors are good at.

But the actual sexuality of the actor. Nah, not worth talking about.:o

Why do people only wonder if real life reflects a soap role when the character is gay?!

Do they wonder if real life reflects the character they play when they play a

    murderer
    rapist
    paedophile
    wife beater
    drug addict
    alcoholic

    etc etc etc

No! Only if they are playing a gay character.

    It's getting very boring!

Why have you put gay in the list of bad things you have quoted above couldn't you have said straight age range etc?

the OP obviously cares because they want to fantasize over the fact Sam Strike would be getting bumfun in real life.

i really dont see the issue with that. the whole ''does it matter'' thing is too overplayed.
it matters to the OP obviously !

Kieron richardson is gay in real life and plays a gay person in hollyoaks, doesnt make a difference. He could be straight like emmet scanlan and still play a gay character extremely good

Love how this thread seems to get up some folks noses. He's a handsome chap and if he is gay it's great to see a positive gay role model. It's not something that gay people get to see a lot of. It's a heterosexual world and having people that gay people can identify with is only a good thing.

Don't be sorry for asking. Many posters will judge how an actor develops their character. Nothing wrong with wondering if he is approaching it as a gay or straight man.

Well one thing's for sure, he CAN act. Which makes a change from the likes of Joey, Tyler, Anthony etc.

Sometimes acting talent actually speaks volumes, unlike some of Eastenders castings over the years.,
