When in doubt, always ask for a poll
Background: Persistent rumours that the BBC is to introduce a same-sex couple because of the uneven ratio of men to women this time round

EDIT - a ha!
It won't hurt anyone, it won't shatter the moral fabric of the country and it could be interesting.
What she said.
I don't want them to because, as someone else pointed out in another thread, they'll probably do it in such a way that it's two overly camp guys head to toe in skintight lycra and sequins dancing to ABBA / YMCA / The Time Warp every week. And all that's going to do is promote a stereotype that there's already enough of around.
And yes, certain sections of the media, those that already have an axe to grind, would love the idea of the BBC picking up a shotgun, loading both barrels, and aiming it squarely at its feet. they would have a field day. And the BBC does not need that either (it has plenty of other opportunities to do that).
And I guess it would hand more ammunition to those within Government and beyond who believe that the BBC needs cutting down in size. Sites like Mumsnet would go into meltdown, and the publicity would be fanned by other sections of the online media and the likes of Twitter. The BBC does not need that either.
So people need to think carefully about what they want.
I think the SCD audience are open-minded, like a bit of fun and are ready to support anybody who tries their best. Many of them must have family members who are in same-sex relationships, and have first-hand experience of supporting them through any problems they face.
yep,and there in lies the problem. You just know they'd go the horribly sterotypical screaming queen route!
We had Colin Salmon dancing with Kristina Rhianoff and he was far too tall for her, so I don't think height difference is particularly an issue. And as for lifts, in SCD they only do one or two in the whole series, most couple who enter SCD never get to do one.
There are already international same sex championships and those couples seem to manage. As a for instance, the British one is in October in Blackpool, run by that couple of dancers, The Sugar Dandies, are they called? - who were on Britain's Got Talent last year.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if we see a bit of that on ITT, either.
Given such a perfomance like Colin Salomons would a same sex couple really change so much about scd. I mean i think it could even tone the camp down.
This forum does seem to make polls a ballache to do !
ETA: sorry, about being in the majority, I have seen the poll results. I'm just assuming that the 'no' votes are to do with the idea of it being a patronizing, stereotypical camp-fest rather than you all being a bunch of of raging homophobes.
Aesthetically 2 females seems a lot eaasier
As far as should they shouldnt they then yes I think its a good plan but I think for the first time it needs to be a good dancer so its not all glitter and shuffling
There are a number of gay and lesbian "friendly" dance schools in London. Many of the best leaders are gay (not necessarily "camp"). Don't see anything wrong with it - although personally I don't think they should do it on SCD because the press coverage would probably be detrimental.
However, this does concern me.I personally feel two men together would sadly make some of the audience uncomfortable, and also be turned into a running joke.
Two women together would automatically be accused of being sleazy etc. Who knows? It might not happen.
I am gay and i really don't see the need for a same sex couple to be dancing on SCD.
However on that new one that ITV is doing, then maybe that would be different because it is about a real life couple learning to dance together. SCD isn't about that, it is about one person learning to dance with a professional which is quite different in my view.
I think that an all male couple would be used to gain headline inches and cause sensationalism if used on SCD, rather than highlighting that they can exist. An all female couple would be less sensationalist, and I actually doubt would shock the elderly as many of them would have been used to dancing with other ladies at dances in the absence of men in the past. If you look at old footage of social dancing at the tower ballroom there are lots of ladies dancing together.
Stricitly itself is an uber campfest. Both Bruno and Craig are stereotypically gay, Len and Bruce are camp. Same sex couples who didn't live up to the stereotype would be like a breath of fresh air but sadly the BBC has always prefered to deal in stereotypes rather than representing the diversity of the UK in 2013.
Notice couples 84 & 81. Each man's strong, masculine style of dance complements the other, and the two women provide a fluidity you wouldn't get with an opposite-sex couple. They're all dancing the same dance, but it's given a fresh breath of life.
Implications for sociopolitical stuff aside, I think it makes for a really interesting dynamic. But I think Strictly is too lowbrow for it to be appreciated properly.
