Do kids really behave as badly as those on the BBC comedy "Outnumbered"?

I would never get away with calling my dad a "prat". Yeah I had arguments with my parents but I never insulted them along those lines.

Even the "cute" little ones are quite annoying too.

I'm afraid some parents just don't believe in having boundaries for their kids.

Kids seem to get away with a lot on TV. If I walked away from my mum and dad while they were talking to me or ignored them I would get a good belting from them.

Also, if I called them any curse words, not necessarily swear words or showed gross disrespect to them I would get a good slapping and sent to bed for the rest of the day.

When I turned 16 I was too big for my parents to discipline like a child and so all that stopped even if I mouthed off every now and again.

And I'm only 23, so this thing about parents getting softer is not really true in my case.

I can't watch. Though one of the kids has some moderately badly behaved parents himself, Google Tyger drew honey, for a laugh.

I don't have kids. Outnumbered shows the probable reason why. Yes I know it's just a programme but having watched an episode I just know as a parent Social Services would have me. Bad enough having to hold back with the little shites I have to travel with on London transport each school morning.

And so you know I'm not so unforgiving, I have a lovely very young daughter of a close cousin that I appreciate for her intelligence and good manners, and for being a credit to her Teacher mother. Still, she's not always an angel, and I do wonder what she gets up to with us grown ups not around.

Apart from the calling the dad a prat thing I don't think that there that badly behaved but I love ''annoying kids'' so thats proberbly why, I think the little girl in that show is a little comedy genius. :)

I think the little girl in this show is one of the few children I would actually like to own.

    She's ace isn't she? :D

I'm still laughing at that scene with the outside toilet, my kids have done that to me several times. :o It's the only family sit-com that actually resembles real family life, which is why it's the only one thats funny. Kids are gennerally bloody hillarious people.

Yes she is, I think she bounces well off the boy as well. I was very pleased to see the show return to our screens.

    Ooooh, I love little Ben.

ETA They all seem to be a bit hyper, though, except the parents. They seem a bit slow on the uptake :D

Really? I find that girl incredibly disrespectful to her parents. She doesn't seem to realise that she is not on their level.

Do you think this could be something to do with it being a scripted family comedy show rather than a fly on the wall documentary?

You may be onto something there.

Well the reason for the thread was to gauge to what extent real kids behave like this. And some posters have said that this programme is a good reflection of real life.

Yes, his parents are porn stars. But that doesn't mean they're bad or that he's a bad child, he goes to a good school so he's probably not.

I find it funny, they're not bad kids, they're just acting smart arses and playing their parents up for a laugh, they aren't trashing anything or beating people up, just being funny kids, to be honest it's somewhat an extreme example of kids being kids.

It isn't scripted. They just have a general "scenario" and the rest is freestyled.

What does ''on their level mean''? She's smart and smart kids question things (actually all kids do). I don't think she's disrespectful, annoying and exhausting perhaps...

That's true, I could be that inquisitive/annoying at that age as well, but only because I wanted to know why!

You think those kids are badly behaved? I watch the show thinking 'A real family would fight constantly. They all get along fine, not a tear between them'

Very true. My brother and sister-in-law being two. I think my niece will get worse as she gets older

There's a difference between being questioning and belligerent and those kids were being belligerent and constantly questioning their parents authority in setting boundaries for them.
