    Saturday job in a butchers at 15..£10 a day..and meat for a week for free...mum loved that bit...:D

    Then at 16 when I left school worked for Mr Byrites...clothes shop..long gone..(1979) take home pay was £69.70 a week...and 25% discount on clothes.

    Left School in '52, Worked from 8 to 6, 8 to 1pm on Sat. £1. 19,11 1/2p a week. My father took unopened Pay Packet and gave me 5 shillings pocket money. I had to bike 5 miles to work and 5 miles home in all weathers.

    Just dug out my first payslip, I started work in 1984 and took home £224 the first month.

    Almost.......i was on two quid a week. :(

    I left out my newspaper round though which was 15 bob (75 pence) two years earlier so i was actually better paid as a 'paper lad' than i was in my first full time job. >:(
