    Not at all.
Everything performed well last night. EastEnders though has always done well on xmas day (even during it's happier xmas with No deaths or Drama)

Looks like a good line up on BBC1 tonight again

    EastEnders,Miranda,Mrs Browns Boys

    Jake Kanter ‏@Jake_Kanter

    BBC1’s Xmas day viewing share was 26.84%, a percentage point more than 2011’s 25.69%. ITV1’s was 17.75%, down drastically on 2011’s 20.84%.

Well that makes the rather lacklustre ratings look less bad.

The dip for downton looks to have hurt ITV.

Looking at timeshifts we could get some biggie's this year. Doctor who need's almost 3m to get to 10m! I don't think it's possible. It's very possible for EE and as for downton could it double its audience? to get to 12.

If the officials are good then it takes away the disappointment off the Overnight's. CTM will probably fall short of 10m.

And you look at the official rating it got on BARB and that could have won them the night tonight. Just shows how much audiences have sadly leaked away.

Interesting results but all fairly understandable if you ponder them. Only East Enders, Corrie and Doctor Who doing well share wise. The rest underperformed.

But people try to watch the soaps live as they are on a lot and you get behind. Nobody needs to watch a two hour drama going on to nearly 11 pm on Christmas night. And Call the Midwife (as the first ep of a new series that will not start for a few weeks) is also dispensible live viewing, Very obvious why it makes no sense to expect huge numbers to watch either of those live when one of the two big soaps is in opposition.

The Royle Family did okay but was not very good and if on next Christsmas that will down its figures. I hope they do something different (which in reality will mean reviving The Vicar of Dibley or Birds of a Feather I expect). However, there was a sad lack of family viewing/variety - which is what you really want after a Christmas Day.

That is the message for 2013.

For Christmas Eve curiously the Sun today leads its ratings coverage with a story that Outnumbered was the winner that night with 9.1 million peak? MBB is simply said to have been a hit for matching the East Enders figure but below a photo of Outnumbered.

I agree, the soaps will always do well on Christmas Day( though less so Emmerdale as it's always number 3) as they usually have the climax to a storyline and EE was on form last night. Also for all there are omnibuses and repeats, people tend to prefer them live, which is why the ITV soap omnibuses are on ITV2 and the EE omnibus is now at midnight on Fridays.
TRF was OK, but nowhere near as funny as the last two Christmas Specials, but can a Vicar of Dibley special do that well as this has been off air for several years and experiments with long dead sitcoms haven't worked. People might watch in large numbers as occured with TTMB, as it had been off air for 26 years, but the end result was it was completely unfunny and the characters had long been forgotten. I'd say Miranda, MBB, or possibly a Lucas and Walliams vehicle, for Christmas Day to get 10 million watching.
Again totally right with period drama again, two hours on ITV1 and 75 minutes on BBC One is too much and it demands too much attention on Christmas night. Also teens and kids are likely to get bored.

Virigin+ didn't exists and if sky+ did it was only small at the time.

There was NO such thing as Catch up or I Player either

Yes that why audiences have leaked away. Sorry for being vague!

If I remember correctly the BBC brought back OFAH the next year to bolster there schedule. Sadly it was terrible and those 3 eps were very hard to watch. Thats why I don't want Dibley to come back it ended on a perfect note. It's probably one of the reasons why David Renwick killed off victor so he wasn't forced to bring him back and write a dud.

I don't remember a single dud episode of One foot. It was my favourite. It got 20m for the brilliant feature length episode One Foot in the Algarve I think it beat OFAH which was on Christmas day.

Why don't the BBC repeat One foot? It's classic comedy.

David said that he found it harder and harder to write more. He said something like it took 6 months to right the final series (series 6 of 6 episodes) so I guess he didn't want to write a dud. The BBC kept harassing him to write more which is why he killed him off.

There were NO Duds to One foot in the grave and unlike Only fools it's still funny watching it now and doesn't look too dated either.

    I don't know why BBC doesn't show a repeat

Do you know what the ratings were for the opposite end of the spectrum, the poor DEs?

I'm still puzzled by the apparent total lack of promotion for Lady and the Tramp. It got a decent write-up in the Radio Times from Barry Norman but I never saw a single trailer.Bit of an own-goal BBC1.

Miranda is very much a mainstream sitcom with universal appeal. Like Gavin And Stacey, which also had mainstream appeal which resulted in it getting 10m concolidated for the last two episodes in Christmas Day and New Year Day slots.
Unlike Gavin and Stacey though Miranda is absolutely awful - it won't bomb, but it would be quite nice if it did. I wouldn't say it's mainstream at all either, but then neither is Mrs Brown.

All hints are this will be the last series of Miranda, but I suspect they'll throw out a few more Christmas specials in years ahead - and with the BBC cupboard being so bare they'll have a good chance of a Christmas Day slot as I doubt they'll have the balls to say no to another Royle Family.

Downton, CTM, Royles & Strictly shouldn't be on xmas day. Hopefully last night's underwhelming ratings will lead to changes.

Miranda & MBB deserve an xmas day slot and they are the types of programmes people want to watch on xmas day.

The 2nd MBB was on after EE on RTE1 last night and it's a laugh a minute episode. Viewers are in for a treat tonight, hope it does well again. It would have neared 10m in the Royle's slot last night.

Shrek also did poorly. UP would've done better.

On first glance that looks like a pretty weak set of ratings all round. Our TV was off all day but that's usual for us on Christmas. I think ITV need a lot of hype to get people in on Xmas Day and the first DA special last year achieved that - not so much this year even though the series is still as popular as ever. I suppose it might timeshift even more than last year but that kind of thing doesn't really support putting it on Christmas Day, IMHO. It does seem that ITV may have overestimated Call The Midwife which looks pretty average there. Would have been better running from Corrie straight into Downton.

Nothing impressive on BBC1 at all either. Eastenders on 9.3m being the best of the day doesn't say much. Royles, Midwife and Strictly all looking rather average under 8m. Christmas Eve ratings were more impressive than this! :D

Safe to say that I haven't done well on the predictions game - Corrie came in bang on the 8.6m I predicted. But I've gone way too high across the board. 0's for most of the BBC line-up and Downton and not much for Emmerdale.

In fact, the only show which seems to have done better than my prediction was The Queen. :o

That's very interesting. He is a very clever writer and I am amazed he never did another sitcom. I suppose yet again he did not want to write any duds.

As for it not looking dated. That's very true. Most of the jokes are timeless and not to do with things at the time like OFAH.

OFAH is great don't get me wrong boy One Foot can be still watched as a sitcom not a Classic sitcom if you know what I mean. Same with Fawlty Towers to a certain extent.

Do we think the order of the programs on BBC iplayers most watched list is a good indication into how big the timeshift will be?

Doctor Who right up the top. It usualy adds about 2m on so I would expect it to get painfully close to 10m. Might get a bigger timeshift because more people have PVR's now than ever. With Comet closing there were a few going cheep! My mums got one now.

She recorded everything and watched it back in fascination. But she is worried about how much it can hold I keep saying it has a 1TB Hard Drive but that doesn't mean anything to her.

This is opinion. You make it sound like a fact.

Plenty of people fnd Miranda very funny. Yes, plenty of peole hate it as well, but plenty of people hate Mrs Brown's Boys and that managed nearly 9m viewers on Christmas Eve.

Thanks DMN. Eastenders most popular show with working classes, Coro St. 2nd most popular. Unlike the normal ratings, Emmerdale beat Doctor who and Paul OGradys Love of Dogs beat Strictly come dancing with low earning people!

The DEs also dont like watching the Queens Message with 34% of those watching it on BBC&Itv compared to 49% for the whole population and 59% for the upper classes.

ITV has always had more appeal to the working classes than the BBC. The BBC has always been regarded as a bit snooty. We don't call it "Auntie" for no good reason.:p
