My 15 year old son asked for a NES for Christmas! It arrived today and I had a go while he was out - just to make sure it was working ;)
I forgot how annoying the music was, and how blocky the games are lol. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did back in the 80's. :D

    ...why?

    I've no idea

He has an xbox360, wii, DS etc. Maybe he fancied retro gaming lol.
I remember back in the day of SNES, mega drives etc my young cousin started playing the pong/tennis game we still had and loved it. He played it more than his mega drive!

How much you pay for it?
I'd get a SNES but not sure how you'd plug it into a HDTV so I use emulation :-)

    TRY THIS:-

Lovely little machine, though at the time I was a CPC/Speccy/C64 and Master System user. Glad to see youngsters getting into retro-gaming and not just us old farts.

Do you still have a VCR?

If so, plug SNES into it, then SCART (or whatever) it to your TV.

    Done :)

N64 and Gamecube video cables work fine on a SNES.

It just wouldn't be as nostalgic waving a Wiimote around rather than using the old NES controller! The NES one wasn't the most comfortable though.

This is a prime example of someone who's not played Wii (or at least not VC)and doesn't know what they're talking about.
There is no waving the Wiimote around with NES games as you just hold the Wiimote the same as you would the original NES controller as the button layout is pretty much the same.

Yeah but there's no response on the T.V I'm using the original cable that comes with the console.

When you say no response does the screen flicker when you press the reset button on the NES, If it does just keep pressing the reset button and wait a few seconds, if nothing appears on screen press reset again. It might take many attempts but as long as you have a red light it should work eventually as long as theirs a cartridge inserted.

Have you scanned through every analogue UHF channel?
I can't remember exactly, but weren't most consoles on UHF 36 so you could use that as a starting point and fine tune.

Emulation has worked well for me on my PC. Ever since my ZX Spectrum, and Spectrum +3 (both of which I now regret binning, literally, as I thought them worthless) when I was able to emulate them on my PC in the late 90's and download all the software for them, to everything else since (SNES, GBA, PSX, N64, and of course MAME for emulation of countless arcade games, and more recently even PS2). Emulation is good, and very convenient (I wouldn't want to wait five minutes to load a Spectrum game from a tape image, except maybe once or twice for nostalgia, knowing the emulator loading it would be guaranteed not to have a tape loading error as it was all digital and would work every time).

I'm sure old consoles and games must turn up in second hand stores in the cheaper areas of most city and town centres, and maybe in porn-brokers and the like as well. Personally, I'd rather run an emulator on my PC as for anything up to at least a PSX or N64 or GBA, the emulation is flawless and it is more convenient than using a console (I assume anyone using a PC for these purposes would have a good PC game controller for it of course).

Wii, yes. Virtual Console, no. I'd completely forgotten that the Wiimote has a D-pad and of course these old games couldn't work with the motion sensor! :o

I went to a porn broker and asked for a Virtual Boy. I've got to say I got the strangest look from the shopkeeper
