Raised painful vein on the sole of my foot
On the sole of my left foot I've always been able to see a random vein under there under the skin, which was raised very slightly. I have no idea what I did to cause this, however that area is incredibly tender meaning it's pretty hard to walk or place pressure on that foot. It's been like that for almost 3 weeks now.
It does seem particular to where that vein can be seen, pressing hard against it really hurts and even brushing it against something kills. It almost feels like I've badly bruised it.
I did go to a walk in centre but after a massive long wait, the person who had a look at it was pretty clueless. She thought it may be random inflammation, though I didn't do anything to cause it from memory. She also mentioned Plantar Fascitis, however I really don't think it's that. Most people experience heel pain from that and the symptoms just seem to be different. The pain is localised to a 1cm spot on the sole where you can see the vein under the foot, so clearly something's going on there. Pressing against it there are no lumps or anything, just pain beneath the skin.
I was told to take ibuprofen for a few weeks in case it was inflamed, however it's not doing much. It did seem to be getting better but as of yesterday it's painful again and went back to how it was. Has anyone any idea what it might be or have you had something similar?

Phlebitis is an inflammation only , Thrombophlebitis is with a clot . Its common to have phlebitis and doenst mean you have a thrombosis .
I couldnt say from here but keep a good eye on it , if its hot or red oo very painful , if the leg , thigh or area above it gets red or hot get it checked out .
A great anti inflammatory is arnica cream ,Try it on the vein .
"Blood clots in the feet can cause redness or swelling of the feet, in addition to numbness of the affected foot. A throbbing pain in the foot that does not go away with rest may also be a sign of a blood clot that has formed in the foot. If you experience a sharp, shooting pain when you flex your foot, this may also be a sign of a blood clot. There may also be a widening of the veins at the surface of the foot."
I definitely have a throbbing pain, and no amount of rest does anything. I spent most of yesterday with my foot up and have avoided the gym for about 2 weeks. Flexing my foot does cause more pain and there is widening of the veins (as in a bulging vein) on the foot but not on the surface (if they mean above the foot) but on the sole. The bulge there can be quite hard from time to time, maybe that's just when ive been sitting down without my legs up as more blood will be in the vein.
Just the fact that it's still painful 3 weeks later alarms me a bit. It just seems very odd to have a vein on the sole of your foot pop up and the pain literally has got no better. I don't want to risk having an undiagnosed blood clot there, which could potentially be dangerous thanks to the incompetence of the person who saw me. To be honest though the whole foot itself isn't swollen nor is the leg or thigh....
I'm thinking of going to a walk in centre today as I have some signs of a blood clot, am I just being paranoid? Will they take me seriously?
I am sure they will take you seriously. If it was a clot, and you have had it for 3 weeks now, I really think you would know for sure. I had a clot at the back of my left knee some years back and it was the most excruciating pain I have ever encountered (and I have encountered a lot of pain in my life).
Even a quick google shows Plantar Fascitis is clearly not what I have, also the doctor today told me that there simply just aren't veins that close to the sole of the foot, they're much deeper. It looks like a vein as it's kind of bluey/green but it's not apparently. Surely the nurse would have the knowledge that veins aren't that close to the skin on the sole of your foot. Even I thought it was odd, as I've never seen obvious veins on the sole of anyones foot!
So it seems that's the answer then. Hopefully it will go away in 5 days or so with this treatment as I don't particularly fancy it being cut into...
It so hard on a forum to be able to say what it is , but at least the doc was a help .:)
