Perhaps you're thinking of the schools programme 'Scene', which often had one-off plays (as well as documentaries).

I remember the flashing blade, I was fascinated by the dubbing.

    Sesame st of course.

Best schools programme (if u were off sick in the 70s) was how we used to live.

Absolutely. What was it about those spooky Eastern Europeans? :)

I've got the DVD. It has the version we saw - the one which was narrated- and one with sub-titles and it was in glorious colour. I remember watching it in black and white. It's still good - even after all these years. There is an interview with the actress playing the Princess. She said it was a holiday job she did when she was a student.

There was another show I used to like watching. It was usually shown Sunday tea-time. It was called Forest Rangers. I think it was set in Canada. I seem to remember it had quite a catchy theme tune.

Can anyone remember a foreign tv prog, shown during the school hol's in the 1960/70's. Can't remember what it was about, but it had some town with a canal or river running through the centre of it. Was a very wide canal. Never could make out what it was about.
I know this is a bit vague, but its been on my mind for a while. Thanks in advance

Was it Danger on the Dance Delta ? I asked on here years ago about it but I can't post a link to the thread on my phone.

California Fever - I didn't really know much about the eastern coast of america but I wanted to go there!
My God, I was obsessed with this show as a kid.

Like you, it made me fall in love with the idea of living on the west coast of America, where the sun always shone and everybody looked so tanned. The same appeal was present in shows like CHiPs, the Red Hand Gang and the short-lived 240 Robert.

I'd love to see episodes of California Fever again, but it appears all that's available are these title sequences....

I guess someone's got them on video.

I can remember an Australian series set on a sailing ship that was used as a research/survey vessel. They had a control room with a large chart of Australia taking up one wall. A door used to open in the chart and I wondered what would happen if someone was up a ladder pinning flags around Darwin. Opening the door would send them flying.

Well, I was sort of obsessed with it too, but it was mainly for seeing Lorenzo Lamas in tight jeans.

That's Barrier Reef - terrific theme music:

That was on ITV at 1.30 when they ran lunchtime dramas/action shows on weekdays IIRC.

Also recall mid-morning ITV showings of Stingray and Fireball XL5

I really hope I have not missed the boat on this one. PLEASE reply if you can help.
There is one program that always sticks in my mind.
    I think it was ITV
I think it was about a family of american loggers.
I have a memory of the titles showing a log being pulled from a river bank via a big metal chain.
It could have been more soap opera than children TV series.

I used to love Beachcombers! Thanks for that - I'd completely forgotten about it!

Does anyone remember a programme called BJ and the Bear? I think that's what it was called. About some trucker called BJ and "Bear" was a chimp. My Nan used to love it and I'd sit and watch it with her! Actually, come to think of it, the title makes it sound like some sort of gay porno flick now! :o:blush::D

Another kids show that I seem to recall being a staple ITV kids holiday program was Tarzan.
It was live action and I seem to recall it being hour long episodes. In my memory seemed that there were hundreds of episodes, but it will probably turn out there were 12

Strangely enough I can't remember much about it other than tarzans companion was "Ji" (rhymes with "eye"). I can also imagine it would now be very unPC.

I remember one line from the title.
"BJ Mckay(?) and his best friend bear".
    Very popular in the UK.
