Figures for Channel 4 Racing are still down on last year despite Saturday's programme offering one extra meeting than the same show last year. "If it ain't broke..."

Saturday 5th January 2013: Sandown Park, Wincanton and Chepstow
    14:00 540k 4.87%
    14:15 543k 4.85%
    14:30 696k 6.42%
    14:45 652k 5.89%
    15:00 665k 5.92%
15:15 757k 6.46% Coral Welsh National (should have been on BBC)
    15:30 618k 5.05%
    15:45 530k 4.18%

Saturday 7th January 2012: Sandown Park and Wincanton
    14:00 616k 6.09%
    14:15 586k 5.65%
    14:30 736k 6.97%
    14:45 720k 6.58%
    15:00 725k 6.35%
    15:15 720k 6.14%
    15:30 682k 5.64%
    15:45 655k 5.26%

Still early days of course but not good to be going backwards at a time when they have been promoting their revamped coverage heavily.

Looking at Saturday's schedules, several posters suggested that the BBC might run Merlin repeats on BBC1 rather than BBC3. It made me wonder what rating the actual BBC3 repeat got. Does anybody know?

This is my first post here, but I've been lurking for a while. I'd like to thank everybody for posting ratings. This thread is a brilliant source of information - people really go to trouble over the information and the context. Thank you!

    390,300 (1.7%). :)

Nooooooooo. Have you ever been to the US. I remember watching an episode of The Simpsons and it felt like it had been on for an hour. After every scene their was three minutes of ads during the programme. Our ad breaks are fine. Every 15 min and will give you time to make a cup of tea.
I'm not suggesting they move ahead with the same volume of ad breaks although actually the minutes of ads in the US vs. the UK isn't as overwhelmingly large as people like to suggest. More just the placement of the ad breaks so that they can run shows directly into each other. So on Monday rather than having this ad structure

    Ad break
    7PM: Emmerdale
    Ad break
    Emmerdale
    Ad break
    7:30PM: Coronation Street
    Ad break
    Coronation Street
    Ad break
    8PM: Cornwall
    Ad break

ITV would have this ad structure

    News
    7PM: Emmerdale
    Ad break
    Emmerdale
    Ad break
    Emmerdale
    7:30PMCoronation Street
    Ad break
    Coronation Street
    Ad break
    Coronation Street
    8PM: Cornwall
    Ad break

They'd technically still have the same ad load. Two ad breaks every half hour but they'd just be placed differently. It would also increase the number of sponsor bumps they can do which I'm sure they'd quite like. The obvious problem is that their shows aren't formatted for that kind of ad structure.

You are talking about 6am on a Saturday morning on a digital channel you know. The ratings are both perfectly fine and completely irrelevant.

The reason for the omnibus is the same now as its ever been for any of the soaps. If you want to catch up with multiple episodes the fact that they've all been shown singular all over the schedule on various days isn't much use.

Brookside pioneered the soap omnibus, as before that, if you missed it, then tough( video recorders were still quite rare in the early 80s). I suppose in the hard light of day, with so much competition, a little watched and dirt cheap soap omnbus helps pass the time first thing in the morning even if it smacks of overkill by Sunday.

Mr Selfridge reaction on twitter seems to be big, I revise my prediction up from 5.5m to 6.5million. I couldnt get into it but twitter reaction has been mostly positive... Hmmm, contrary to what I said on another thread 90minutes ago, this will probably hold up much better than Splash does next week.
That assumes people tuned in, in the first and didn't do what both my mother and sister did and decide not to watch because it looked like that show on the BBC (The Paradise) with a random American bloke.

Not surprised, it looked like a substantial piece from the trailer and I think it will be a very big hit as viewers can't get enough of this kind of drama at the moment. My only concern would be that it was a busy 9pm hour acrosss most channels, including significant drama competition from two of the other major networks. Ordinarily I would be more confident of a 7m+ rating, but in the circumstances I wouldn't be surprised if it falls a little short of that. However, it will win the slot with ease and should hold up very well indeed next week.

Will await the DOI ratings with interest, though I think 8 million is on the cards.

About 9 million looks a very safe bet. DOI launch ratings have barely changed over the years.

As for Pam, she was a bad signing anyway and her leaving first won't make any difference whatsoever to the programme.

It always starts well, but it will be interesting to see how it copes against CTM. I still think the show has legs and 6-7 million will tune in even with the strong opposition.
Also CBB holding up reasonably well, which will please you. This is another show that I think has gotten a new lease of life on Channel 5 and they seem to have modernised it and ditched some of the less popular aspects of the Channel 4 years. Not a fan, but I know it makes money for Channel 5 and they were right to buy it.

The main show won't be against Call the Midwife this year - at least, that's if BBC One keep it to the same slot. The skate off's going to be swallowed up once the midwife drama returns, though.

Maybe ITV can take the hit, knowing the main show will be safe.

The launch had more 16-34s than an FA Cup game involving Manchester United on ITV. Enough said I think. Kerching! :)

Disaster for Dancing on ice, theyre biggest star is out in week one. lol.

Oh dear. I bet the judges had the gallery in their ears saying "vote Keith out", "vote Keith out".....

Then again, Keith is presumably this year's "Russell Grant/Widdecombe" (or whatever the DOI equivalent comedy contestants have been - I can barely remember who's on this year let alone previous years...) - so probably more important he stays in.

    So, my predictions then:

    BBC1:

Countryfile 5.2m (boosted last 20 mins)
    Antiques Roadshow 5.3m
    Ripper Street 4.7m

    ITV1:

    DOI 9.0m
    ASFF 7.0m
    DOIR 8.5m
    Selfridges 7.4m

    C4:

The Iron Lady 2.6m - higher than usual +1 I suspect

Could be ITV's best night in months.

    Years, maybe... :D

Finally saw a Blandings trailer tonight.

I can see why it's on at 6.30 and buried against DOI....

In fairness, they have bigged up the Wodehousian whimsy of it all so no-one's in any doubt what to expect. But it will pitch it to a narrow band of devotees. Suspect it is heading for ratings around the 4m mark.

The DS Ratings Prediction Game predicted averages of 7.5m for the main Dancing on Ice show and 6.9m for the skate off while Mr. Selfridge is expected to pull in 5.5m and Ripper Street 5.0m.

I think most of those predictions happened while ITV were suffering from their normal nightmare of ratings at Christmas - I expect Dancing on Ice to be higher (at least the main show) but Mr. Selfridge could be about right, as could Ripper Street.

I see Prince Charles is being interviewed on This Morning tomorrow (along with, presumably, Pammie....)

Thankfully, there will be no clever stunts by Pip - as it's already been recorded - phew!

Possibly, given we hopefully will get an upload of the official Christmas week BARB ratings (come on Mike....) and a possible NYD consolidation update... :)

ITV could have easily won Saturdays by broadcasting DOI in a primetime slot rather than cramming it into Sunday as it awaits the new 8pm arrival of the midwife. The results show sacrificed to the midwife. I have no !explanation why this night is the light entertainment dumping ground durong the first quarter. When a good show finds a place on saturday night again during january its going to rocket! It was no better in the eighties the beeb used to air paul daniels that vet programme one by one and bleedin bergerac! Dont remember that slot being ever good on bbc 1
