Hello all, I have been away debating on the political forums on DS aswell as campaigning during the election run up. I have missed normality and debating the nice things in life like ratings. Hope you guys are well, but I'm back.
Must admit, what a blooming shock election result! Who'd have thought that eh?
Speaking of the Election, and its potential effects on TV, I've been rubbing the Ratings Thread crystal ball. ;-)

Thankyou, the A69 is quite a dangerous road and luckily it didn't happen on the dual carriageway part. I think something must have gone through the tyre and burst it, as the mechanic said this morning the tyre was totally ruined.

You could have that along with Wind-ier "A relaxing 5 hour daily programme which looks at a wind turbine. Will it turn? With it be Windy? The only way is to watch and discover the joys of the wind turbine"
If ever a show was past its best, ratings have sunk year after year - the demographics and cost of star talent must have made it an easy decision.
I think so, the cost associated with American Idol must be huge, and pulling 1.4/1.5 ratings isn't good enough for FOX, I wouldn't be surprised to see the final season get a bump over there due to this. It also gives NBC a monopoly over the big talent shows having America's got Talent in the summer and two cycles of the voice to draw people in

Thought ITV were surprisingly poor on election night.
Well, regardless of the ratings, they would have done it anyway. I don't know where these "rumours" a certain poster keeps on mentioning they weren't going to do one comes from, they have to have the newsgathering there anyway to cover it for the news, so it probably costs very little to just roll with it all night, especialy a show like the one they did from the normal news studio with loads of talking heads. ITV would have wasted more money having all the reporters out there just for the regular news bulletins.
It's probably much cheaper to do an election show these days too because thanks to new technology you don't need such a massive infrastructure. The fact C4 were able to do one on presumably a pretty low budget and still get all the stories and the results illustrates that.
I watched the Beeb but I recorded ITV to have a look at it, I thought it all seemed a bit dull. I don't think it helped that the exit poll was presented in an extremely underwhelming way, ITV just read out the numbers and then seemed to refuse to deviate from the planned script so Julie Etchingham was talking about what figures would make a coalition and so on, and only after all that did they start to point out the Tories were miles ahead and that was the story, long after the Beeb and C4 had reacted to it.
You're right. It must have been ahead of GMB anyway.
Well, yes, as I said yesterday, both were just continuations of the overnight coverage, even though GMB went out under the GMB branding it was rolling news throughout, so nothing to lure over any usual Breakfast viewers trying to avoid election coverage. As I said, though, it's likely both will have gone up as it's a day when people who don't usually watch brekfast TV often tune in.
In other news, Whose Line is it Anyway is returning as a live show in the West End for two weeks, given the success of the US version, I wonder if this is a way of testing whether a UK revival on television is feasible. I wouldn't be surprised if the original producers are pitching to broadcasters. Channel 4 seems the most likely home but it could easily end up elsewhere like Channel 5, Dave, BBC Two etc if Channel 4 turns it down.
But despite the change of name, it was clearly the exact same programme with the same producers and some of the same participants. In fact I don't know why they didn't just call it Whose Line Is It Anyway. Anyway, it was a big flop, it was about as spontaneous as Big Ben.
And ITV did a Whose Line-esque show as well a few years ago, on Saturday nights... http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Thank_God_You%27re_Here
But like Play To The Whistle, and many other ITV shows, it simply wasn't strong enough for 9pm.
Well I'm pleased to see Home Fires hold up at 5m. Its a good drama, but another programme getting such poor lead in's. Celeb Squares is dragging everything down.

Palladium is the lead in to Home Fires, not Squares.
Weird that episode 1's been the least popular, usually it's the other way around. Maybe last year was just really unpopular so people didn't start watching right away?
Home Fires consolidated to 6.61m +1.25m
Safe House 2nd episode consolidated to 6.47m
Is that Home Fires rating confirmed? As it didn't make the HD top 10 so BARB don't have the rating.
I thought it might have timeshifted slightly more than that to be honest, but the retention for episode 2 was encouraging so I think they'll still be pleased with it.
I agree that I wish it had a better lead-in. With a Corrie lead-in I reckon it'd be doing 6m not 5m.

Possibly. Last year's series wasn't received amazingly well so maybe there's an element of that. The first episode's timeshift was a bit lower than the other episodes so that will have played a part (episode 1 and 4 got the same overnight but episode 4 added 440k more in timeshift).
Encouraging for it to have grown since launch though. This series has been really good so far and I hope it can keep it up.

No that is not confirmed. I was basing my SD and HD showing on dullugj 6m total figure. I just added the +1
Since Safe House was over 800k in HD, if we guesstimate the HD figure for Home Fires as 800k, add the 5.50m that brings it to around 6.3m. Then the +1 figure of 610k which brings in a total of 6.9m (so a figure between 6.5m-7m). I think that is more accurate which would represent a timeshift of 1.57m.

Next weeks overnight should be over 5m again.
The difference is you are assuming 800k for HD while dullugi figure indicates 600k. Either way its done ok although a slight drop this week and it cant afford any more drops really.

That shows how much the omnibus being on Friday affected the timeshift for the EastEnders Friday episode. The timeshift for the Friday episodes looked suspiciously low compared to the other episodes of the week.

It has been revived, but they didn't call it Whose Line Is It Anyway, they called it Fast and Loose...

But like Play To The Whistle, and many other ITV shows, it simply wasn't strong enough for 9pm.
It will do much better then that if it was on Channel 5
Palladium is the lead in to Home Fires, not Squares.
I meant that Celeb Squares is hindering Palladium and this Home Fires. If Catchphrase was at 7pm ITV night would be rating so much better.
It seems a completely pointless exercise to keep flops in the schedule.
Do you think the two week West End revival of Wnose Line Is It Anyway may lead to a national tour if successful
And supposing a new TV version were to be commissioned would Clive want to return as host
I went to the unofficial Fringe version last August and met Clive Anderson lovely chap he is
Safe House 2nd episode consolidated to 6.47m
1. Episode 3 - 11.86m
2. Episode 4 - 11.69m
3. Episode 2 - 11.47m
4. Episode 1 - 11.25m
Weird that episode 1's been the least popular, usually it's the other way around. Maybe last year was just really unpopular so people didn't start watching right away?
George Gently doesn't add much in timeshift does it?
