Agree with the poster saying that there would be way more uproar of that were Balotelli rather than Gerrard. If I were Rodgers, I wouldn't play him again. Maybe a sub appearance in the last game if there's nothing left to play for.

Quality second goal from Mata though.

This game could be a major turning point in the futures of both these clubs.

Lfc probably without cl football, allowing United to get back up there.

I saw an article on Yahoo titled "5 reason why manchester united will lose to liverpool" and one of the reasons was Juan mata.

Ahh this has been the best day in a long long time.

I wouldn't say Liverpool missing out on CL football is a "major turning point"

    Looks a bit interesting again.

Warning shot for United - can they remain composed?

Phil Jones, who shouldn't be on the pitch, deflects the ball past De Gea. United will wish he had been sent off now!

Liverpool making a game of it? I will stick to my prediction of 3-1 to United.

It would if they were included at uniteds expense.

It would probably be the end of lvg and another summer of chaos for them

The ref has been so inconsistent today. No idea how DiMaria wasn't booked or how Jones is still on the pitch.

Slight deflection but De Gea really should be saving that.

Maria must have been booked for that.

Jones should be off for two blatant yellows and Rooney should have seen red for the kick on the Liverpool keeper.

It was a trip, not a kick and Rooney was pushed anyway. Silly rolling around from the keeper.

I actually think the referee has done well, especially for a derby. Di Maria's handball is the only one.

Are you even watching? He was pushed by Skrtel and slid into him.

Of course I'm watching. I don't comment on games I'm not watching.

He was pushed, but when on the floor kicked out at the keeper.

That's what I was watching, and the commentators too saw it like that

No way do I think Rooney can be blamed for anything there. There was nothing in it.

Can't really see Liverpool getting another goal.

Liverpool are looking more of a threat now, while Man UTD do not look like they will be scoring anymore. Man UTD need to hang on and just defend now, if they want to win the game.

Good job killing the game in the last 10-15 minutes by Man U. Liverpool ran out of ideas and ran out of puff after chasing the game with 10 men.

    Soft, but definate, penalty

Should have let Mata take it....

Post match interviews should be interesting

Fair chance that could be a red for Skytyl as well retrospectively

If that was Costa, the papers and sky would be full of it. Let's see what happens......

The brutal truth is, aside from the first 20 minutes, United didn't have to play particularly well to win.
