Good evening to you all.

As the above reads.

Sky Buy & Keep is now live on compatible Sky boxes.

On selecting Sky Store , you will now find the new service.

The service is also available on the Sky+ App.

Kind regards as always

News to me, when did it go live?

I'm guessing by compatible box they mean only boxes with the new R009 software.

    Evening Chenks.

I never realised it was a race sir.

As you are doubtless busy advising others , I thought I'd post for all those that don't follow your posts.

As you can see , obviously the poster below you didn't know.

I was highlighting for those that didn't know , that the service was live. Not the actual service itself that was mentioned weeks ago.

You keep up your good work.

    Kind regards as always

    James

Without looking it up, I'm going to make the following assumptions about this new initiative:

    - You only get to "keep" what you buy as long as you remain a Sky customer (i.e. have a valid viewing card).
    - No way to get the film on BD.

    Am I right?

you get to keep the DVD, but if you leave sky then you lose access to the digital version.

    and yes, DVD only.

It's only just gone live on the boxes (non beta) and app though hasn't it? Which is what James was saying isn't it?

Its probably somewhere on the web, but how much are sky charging for a new release (e.g. the hobbit).

I don't have the R9 software on my box yet, which I presume I need in order to check since I see no "buy and keep" category..

New releases are £13.99 - that's for the HD version and DVD backup. Not sure if SD cloud copy is even available - I'm only seeing HD on my box.

Older releases seem to be £7.99.

Thanks, not unreasonable, The Hobbit 'Smaug' (extended) for example is £12.75 for DVD + UV copy on Amazon.

Shame there is no Bluray option though (Actually that's only £13 incl UV @ Amazon).

When you compare it to iTunes for example, the hobbit is the same price as the new sky service, however with sky you also get a DVD, with iTunes you only get the digital copy. So sky are offering a bonus compared to the competition.

But I do agree that it's a shame there isn't a bluray option. I would prefer to just buy a bluray and have a physical HD copy than use this service.

Waste of time and so overpriced

No Bluray option is an idiotic move

Anything prior to 2008 for example should maybe be 49p
but maybe classics could be excluded from such a low price.

Just a bit of intelligence from sky was too much to ask!!!

49p? how did you come up with that figure?
plucked from thin air was it?

Don't have the new R.009 software as yet, so can only check this out through the App, I noticed that there are plenty of 'older' films on there that are actually available on Sky Movies now, and 'On Demand' without the (c) too, seems strange that, maybe there just fillers and they'll be removed once new content (that won't be on standard 'Movies') is added.

Might be interested in the odd purchase, only films that don't currently have a BD release mind.

Can you opted out on receiving the DVD, straight in the recycling bin that will go.

And finally, I thought Sky obtained MGM content when their Movie Channel closed a few months back, what happen there, saving them for this service perhaps?

Why not do the decent thing, and pass it onto a Charity Shop, so they can use it for good.

Have you ever thought, that if every feature added had to be useful for EVERYONE, that nothing would ever get done?

You might not find it useful, but others might, only time will tell, but that is no reason not to do something.

This will be brcause you don't need sky movies to use it, so those who don't have sky movies can get some of the films through this new service.

You constantly moan about Sky but still subscribe why ? If I was so dissatisfied with a service it would have gone long since.

49p?! Have you ever seen a film priced that low? Even to rent?

Wouldn't even cover cost of postage of the DVD!
