The problem with Netflix in (my opinion) is that although there is quite a good selection to choose from, you cannot fully browse each genre. You can do a search, but thats not much use. Lovefilm does it better by having a Recently Added section, also if I select eg. Thriller then I can view thumbnails and desriptions of EVERY film available. It takes longer to search but this allows you to fimd obscure and hidden jems. Lovefilm UI isnt perfect, but is the way Netflix should go. Hopfully Netflix will get it right in Uk as there is definatly room for both (and good competition for Sky)
I understand what you are saying but if you login to their site, rate things you have seen in the past and put in your taste preferences, your selection UI will change to reflect this.

I agree with this and you can also highlight genres your not interested in so they don't clutter up your options you see.
My only gripe with the UI at the mo is not being able to hide certain things from the previous watched box as there may be some things I may want to have a look at while the wife's not around, but can't as I could end up being in the doghouse:D

Can someone confirm that the browse section, when looked at by a non-member is not the full list of films available. I'm interested in joining but if that's all the films then i think I'll just keep an eye on the service. Also I only saw a facebook register option for the free trial. Is that the only way? Thanks.

I signed up for the free trial with just my email address and card details. Lots of stuff there and more being added pretty much daily. Sign out of facebook on your PC and give the free trial a go...you have nothing to loose.

I've found plenty to watch and by the time I've watched those, I will come across something else to keep me going for a while more and so on and so on.
I personaly think that some want too much too soon, even though they won't be able to watch all at once anyway.
I'm more than happy with the content so far and has saved me a fortune in buying TV Boxsets that I was going to get and I've been introduced to new things too.

The thing I'd compare it to is Virgin's on demand service, and there's no comparison. It's a thousand times easier to use, programmes are available from episode one, it keeps your place, you can use across devices, etc. In a month of having Netflix we've used it more than we've used Virgin on-demand in all the years since it first launched.
We were paying £30 or so for Xbox Sky Player for a bit last year (for a month or two after the initial joining up offer expired), and while that was obviously more up to date content-wise, it had nothing like the breadth and depth Netflix offers, not to mention an annoying habit of not showing particular programmes, or leaving others off after the first few episodes, and deleting stuff within a week or two of it being shown.
For £5.99 a month I'm amazed how much content there is on Netflix. I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone, depending on your tastes, how much you've already seen, etc, but we'll definitely be continuing to subscribe.
Having said that, it makes a big difference that we just bought a new quiet Xbox. I don't think we'd have used it as much on the old hairdryer.
Glad it's not the full list. I spend a lot of time in hotels when working so this, and with Premier Inns dropping their wifi charges drastically, might be good when there's bugger all on telly. Going to give the free trial a bash. Cheers for the link.

I have already done this and I do agree it makes a difference, but I would still rather be able have the option to look at all films in each genre instead of the 75 or so they show. Perhaps an idea would be where you could choose (like the Netflix or Netflix kids) a complete Lovefilm style UI for finding obscure and forgotten films and a Top / Reccomended style interface which they currently use. I know they cant please everyone, but this would be the best of both worlds. I believe both Lovefilm and Netflix are doing a good job, but their future plans need speeding up now that Sky have announced similar plans only months away.
I am happy with my months trial and at present I intend to continue.

while the people who are disappointed are the ones who have already seen a lot of the content and want to be more in the loop with regards to anything new coming along
£6 is a fab price for the amount of films and tv, but if youve seen the majority of it then you are very much reliant on whatever new content they bring out
and if they dont bring much out then the value of the service goes down

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but although you can't look at the whole genre via Xbox (not sure about other devices), you can on the website - just go to the genre and click (for example) See All Comedies, a button over to the right.
You can also tell it whether or not to include films you've already watched and rated, and put them into a list sortable by year, title and rating.

Exactly my point. I watch Netflix using either Xbox360 or Wii and (I beleive its same for Smart TV,s, bluray and set top boxes) I would like to be able to view all available titles whist I have it on the TV. Not very user friendly if I have to turn on the PC to check out all titles. I know many users watch via computer, but their main target audience is surly viewers who want to watch films directly on their TV.
Example.
Netflix HORROR section via my Wii shows 51 films available unless I then search by title.
LoveFilm HORROR section via Sony BDPS370 Bluray shows 381 titles available. I can use search OR scroll through each title with thumbnail images.
My opinion was just stating that where Netflix have a choice of standard Netflix launch screen or Netflix for Kids, it would seem a good solution to have an additional choice of launcher where ALL films were listed per genre and perhaps rename the current one Netflix Suggestions or similar.
I believe that Netflix would give users a better experience if we could browse through all available titles. I have watched many films via LoveFilm that I had never heard of before just because they caught my attention from browsing through. It would also show people that they have a larger selection of titles available than many people think.
Netflix and LoveFilm (disk via post / games) are different and there is room for both, but competition from Sky will arrive soon and I think that Sony's Crackle will improve and become available via more devices.

Following Lilyhammer will be House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright Penn, and original episodes of Twentieth Century Fox's Arrested Development. Both series are targeted for early 2013 launches.

I'm currently using it on a 9mb Sky ADSL line and it's stuck on X-High / HD no probs.
