In a real tooth and nail fight I think Near Dark just about triumphs.
Nice one!
I have a soft spot for the much maligned John Badham version of Dracula, Starring Frank Langella & Olivier. Its 'theatrical', but captures the 'romantic' essence of the original novel, which is often overlooked in film versions. Dracs appearance at Minas window is genuinely scary, and the way he comes down the wall...

This film kicks ass.
Same!
Down to the core of what a Vampire should be.
My top favourite may be the 1979 Werner Herzog version of Nosferatu.
My sentiments exactly.
John Carpenter's Vampires - Far from Carpenter's best but worth it for James Woods alone.
Let the Right One In - The swimming pool scene is one of the best scenes in horror cinema period.
Salem's Lot (70's TV series) - Plenty creepy and uses the most scary form of vampire (the Nosferatu model)
Nosferatu (original) - Possibly still the scariest vampire even after all this time.
Shadow of the Vampire - A great movie theorising that Max Shreck, star of Nosferatu, actually WAS a vampire.
Bram Stoker's Dracula - Really flawed (Keanu's accent and Hopkins massive overacting but Oldman is great and I love the in-camera special effects)
The Night Stalker - Spawned one of my favourite TV series.
OH - Near Dark and Lost Boys
Special mention to the good old Hammer Horror vampire films, which will always have a special place in my heart!
And Female Vampire. (Jess Franco)
