I have tried to use the iPlayer on my box this morning. I have not powered down recently so I still get the "Initialising" message and, indeed, the iPlayer menu screens, which i can navigate. However, on two attempts at playing a programme have, after a fair pause (timeout?) got a message "cannot open requested page. File open error."
The opinion was that iPlayer would continue to work provided you did not power down. This does not appear to be the case, unless someone else has a different experience.
I have had my box since Nov 2011,& during this time the nice man sent me an e-mail,so I could update the firmware so I could get the iPlayer, all went OK,until this morning,Sunday 19th,I found that the box had locked up on channel 101,so I switched off, unplugged & tried to reboot, NOTHING,apart from four weak bars on the display,I fear the power supply has failed,I bought another one a few weeks after the first & this is OK,apart from Trove services not working,& thus the iPlayer functionality not working,I ONLY bought these so that I could get iPlayer,I think Tesco have let us down, they are still selling these here:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400474521519?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I wonder if Tesco will engage the services of some software house & release an Over The Air firmware update so we may get Tesco BlinkBox stuff &/or iPlayer functionality, can the author here:- http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showpost.php?p=65453526&postcount=1564 possibly expand further how us non-techies can get our boxes working again,I too thought that a purchase of the raspberry pi kits may be justified on various grounds, here's hoping:-))
I think Tesco do have some responsibility as they were advertising them in my local store as being capable of receiving iplayer.
It was a very large sign stating this.
That'll be me. You might want to read my follow-up article which has a downloadable image, and also explains the telnet method (which is in this thread somewhere). http://www.terrestrialtv.co.uk/blog/?e=2
However, the Trove server is still up at the moment, so switching off and back on ought to restore iPlayer.

Sadly installing Telnet in Windows 7 "Add Windows Features" or installing PuTTY will not work for me,it says trying to connect to my STB,but says it cannot connect, even a manual update to Trove site declares no signal found,& even putting the STB in standby will not work,I am thankfull for the more simpler method you have provided, but still no luck?any thoughts for us non-techies?
What's the software version of your box? It's unclear from your previous post whether the one you are using now even has the iPlayer-enabled firmware on it. As has been said, it all still should be working. As long as http://www.trovetv.co.uk/iTrove/SM_bins/ retrieves a list of folders, we're fine.

Thanks, you may be CORRECT,this is the second of my boxes,as I reported previously my first is still just barely showing four bars in the display,I did not upgrade the firmware, either over the air (I set it to "Manual Updates") I will put the firmware sent to me by the nice chap last year onto a freshly formatted USB FAT32 drive,& update it,like I have done before, thanks for this alert,I will let you know how I fare later tonight,Thanks,
Slightly interesting is that the domain name trovetv.com, also registered to Electra Entertainment, also expired on 17th May and has been renewed for a further year.
Edit: It is possible this has been done automatically by 1-2-3 rather than the registrant, but they have apparently not done the same with the .co.uk.
You can see the installed software version by pressing MENU and selecting "Install" and "Version"
You must not attempt to install the IPlayer software on a "HY" box. It will break it.
0225 was the final beta version distributed as a file via email. Firmware ending in 0226 was exactly the same but was the "broadcast" version and appeared on those boxes marketed as iPlayer compatible.

Many thanks for the heads up on installing the latest firmware,I did this (as I have done on my FIRST box),all went well,& I re-tuned all as before, after all was set up OK,it gave the usual screen of "Has your box lost power?if so press OK to search for content" so at this point I disconnected the network cable to see if it could update over the air,it searched & declared it had found a signal, but did not seem to download any stuff over the air (as would be evidenced by the front LED,eventually turning AMBER,in standby),so I plugged in the network cable & brought the set from Standby to power on,then returned back to standby, after about 10 minutes the box downloaded the iplayer stuff & I was able to access all the usual services, thus proving the download site is still active,I was dismayed however to find that either using Telnet,or PuTTY,I still could not get access to the site that "chrisy" has very kindly put up for us,any advice please in order to be able to Telnet into the box?

What actually happens? I go to a command prompt, type "telnet 192.168.1.5" (substitute the IP address of your box here) and it returns with "root> Telnet Connection Open", then type:
Over the air downloads ceased a long time ago so you were right to plug in the network cable again - that is the only way it can happen.

as per the blog and it returns with "start [NULL] Start Electra download"
How far do you get?
After much trial & error I PROVED to myself that it was my ENTRIES that were at fault,my STB said that the IP address was "192.168.000.001" so when I entered "telnet 192.168.000.011" it returned "Port 23 cannot be opened,I look into my Virgin box at the IP address assigned to my STB,it is "192.168.0.11" WITHOUT the extra ZEROES,Thus when I followed your entries into the telnet connection,I got straight in,& download started, however,no progress bar,or indication of status, after 10 minutes I exited the telnet,on my previous STB (that the power supply has apparently failed) the IP address did not have these MISLEADING ZEROES,I can also confirm that on the original firmware the SD/HD automatic switchover worked perfect EVERY TIME,but on the 225 (iplayer firmware) IT DOES NOT,I wonder if the 226 firmware that was blown at Tesco Outlet on "iplayer badged" boxes is different to our 225 firmware,as sent to us by the very nice man Peter? Thanks for your help, guidance & encouragement, please take great pleasure,in knowing you have helped me:):)
Further experiments have revealed that I have to UNPLUG the STB,then allow it to reboot, whilst this is booting,I open up the telnet client,& type in my "192.168.0.11" (WITHOUT THE MISLEADING ZEROES) this then gets me in,I am then able to type in the rest & thus download from "chrisy" here:- http://www.terrestrialtv.co.uk/blog/?e=2#body-anchor

I was struggling to post this reply last night:
I see it redirects to electratv.com which hasn't been working for months (although is still registered, so I guess it is the web hosting that has expired there). The contact email address is at a domain that Nominet says "doesn't exist" (electra-entertainment.co.uk)
btw trovetv.co.uk isn't in a position where it can be registered yet, I guess 123 have a grace period so the domain doesn't immediately go back into the pool, in case of accidental late payments etc (although I'm surprised they haven't redirected it to a "this domain has been suspended due to non-payment of invoice" or somesuch page)

You can do it after it has booted, but if it has already downloaded from www.trovetv.co.uk it doesn't do anything (but then you don't need to force a download at that point anyway).
Interesting point about the leading zeroes, usually they are ignored.

123 could amend/delete the DNS but there's not much else they can do as it's all up to Nominet. The existing registrant has about 90 days to renew it, otherwise it gets deleted. Some registrars (e.g. 123) let you "back order" such domains so that you can get them once they become available (or at least join the race). The one I use doesn't offer this facility so I'm not going to try it.

I just get "This is the www.trovetv.co.uk server ". Top of page says "Nothing to see here" So I think they've gone.
Chris.
Oh right, my apologies .

Tesco are a supermarket - they don't do anything like that, they buy cheap crap in and sell it with no back up.
See: http://companycheck.co.uk/company/04698318
The Iplayer software was never officially released, therefore Tesco have no responsibility if it stops working.

There are some telnets that interpret leading zeroes as indicating an octal rather than decimal number.
