Stage 7: Saturday, September 21 – Epsom to Guildford, 155km
The race’s penultimate stage is the proverbial game of two halves, with a hilly opening 70km containing three category-one climbs being followed by a far gentler final 85km that is almost certain to end in a bunch sprint. The first two climbs – Crocknorth Road and Coldharbour – come early and in quick succession, at 12km and 23km, with the latter being the longer of the two at 1.9km. The third climb, the 2.5km-long Barhatch Lane, comes after 48km and is followed by another ascent that is uncategorised but will nevertheless sting the legs. Intermediate sprints are sprinkled in between the mountains, so those riders chasing the points jersey will need to ensure they are up near the front on the climbs. The route then heads north towards Chertsey before sweeping back south for a loop just outside Guildford. The sprint trains will need to get themselves into position as they head into the town, and also be wary of a tight right-hand turn in the closing stages.

Stage 8: Sunday, September 22 – London to London, 88km
The race ends with ten laps of an 8.8km circuit along the Thames starting and ending on Whitehall. The route is pan flat and follows the course of the northern bank of the river. However, there are technical turns at each end of the circuit and two tight right-handers just before the finishing straight. The general classification will have decided by now, but the day could decide the destination of the points jersey.

World Championship Team Trial Race Guide

The 57.2-kilometre course is a near mirror image of the men’s individual TT route, which takes place three days later. The only difference is a 700m deviation at the finish in Florence, extending the individual course slightly.

The stage kicks off in Montecatini Terme with a technical and twisting start, taking the riders through an early checkpoint at Serravalle Pistoiese (7.3km). The split comes at the top of the course’s only brief climb before a straighter run to Pistoia. From there the route drops south-east for an arrow-straight power section to really open the taps.

At just shy of half distance the second split (24km) should give a real indication of which teams are in the mix, with riders also needing to be aware that the final time will be taken on the fourth rider across the line.

As the race approaches Florence the technicality returns to the course, with a series of tight turns to test the tired riders. A final hairpin bend leads the teams into the finish at the Nelson Mandela Forum.

World Championship Individual Time Trial Today

The course is 57.9km long, starting in Montecatini Terme and ending in
    Florence.
An early, uncategorised rise in the road is the only "climb" in an otherwise pan-flat route.

The opening kilometres are winding and consequently quite technical, but then the road starts to straighten out as it takes the riders towards Florence.

Once in the city, a series of tight corners will present a testing finale to the route and put bike-handling skills and acceleration to the test.

There are three intermediate split points on the course, which will show how the contenders compare against each other and shed light on how the race is unfolding. They are at 7.3km, 21.4km and 42.3km.

Don't forget the next race is tomorrow Giro di Lombardia
the start of the Autumn Classics.

    Route

The riders roll out of Bergamo and begin the largely flat run towards the first climb of the day, the Valico di Valcava (81.6km). The 1336-metre peak comes relatively early in the race but will weaken the legs ahead of tougher tests to come.

Those tests don’t come much more difficult than the Sormano, with an upper 2km which averages an eye-watering 15.8%, with one section topping out at over 25%. With the peloton likely blown apart there will be an intense fight among those riders tailed off to chase back on. Despite almost 90km remaining the climb could spark the end of the race for many.

From there a technical descent must be negotiated before a finale featuring firstly an ascent of the famous Madonna del Ghisallo (196km). The 8.5km ramp features a misleading average gradient due to a flatter section and subsequent descent at the half-way point. Sustained sections of 9% before and after that respite will prove tough with so many kilometres already in the legs.

The final test comes on the form of the Villa Vergano, the late ramp crested just 10km from the finish. A select group could fight it out here but the damage may already have been done. All that remains is for another rider to enter their name into the history books.

Is this one done for the year now?

I ended second in the overall comp for these Autumn Classics - not sure if there was a prize in the main game for 1st. Ended 5th in the overall game for the whole year for non premium players, might give the premium a go next year.

We should get some info in the next few days. If it's like last year the first event is the Tour Down Under.
