If they are only making £3.31 per night, what is costing them the money? Is food included in that? And how is the food costing them that much? I just didn't get that as they own the room so it shouldn't cost much to have someone staying there.

Yep. Having seen them before on Four In A Bed this all feels a bit panto to me.
