When i click on the remove hardware icon in the taskbar, there are 2 USB mass storage devices in the list and i don't know which one is the flash drive and which one is the printer.

I've been using several pen drives on multiple computers for at least four years. They get inserted and removed at least once a day, and I've never once used the "safely remove hardware" thingy.

Its not how many times a day its inserted or removed ( oh err missus...)
Its a function of how quickly you remove it after just having written something to it.

do to with XP flushing its buffers, doing it 'safely' forces them to be flushed, other wise XP will do it in its own good time which may well be just after you un plugged it.
It says in my manual for my flash drive
you must have a posh one, never seen a manual for one - pdf or otherwise

    Yeah honestly mine has been.
    Through the wash twice.
    Dropped in the toilet twice.
    Sat on.
    Thrown.
    Trodden on.
    Bent.
And it still works like it did when i brought it 1yr ago.
Although it doesn't look (or smell :o ) as good lol.
