His heroine addiction is by far the grittiest and most realistic thing EastEnders has ever done along with Sue Osman's cot death storyline and maybe Kathy's rape. The performances from John Altman and June Brown were brilliant. He may have taken a turn to the side of panto in recent stints but nothing can take that storyline away from him. I also thought the attempted poisoning of Dot (the first time) was a classic storyline.

I still believe that was down to the Producer/writers of the time and not the fault of John Altman. Think this return crafted and supervised by DTC will be good.

I hope he gets killed off at the end of his latest return. Tedious, tiresome character who ran his course years and years ago.

Those old clips are great. Eastenders was brilliant then.

When did John Altman forget how to act?

There are far worse characters/actors in the show. Abi, Tamwar and Lee being good examples.

Love his reaction at 4:48 when realising Dot isn't actually dead.

He was a great baddie. I remember I used to think he was good looking back in the early days.
