I think you're right to a degree, although I really like the music from that time and much prefer the musical content to Wogan's show. It's working better for me, but I can well imagine that some listeners might prefer a more modern selection.

They are probably trying to keep the older listeners happy.

Yesterday in the first hour there was the theme from Van Der Valk and a Glen Miller tune. Just a bit too old for me i'm afraid.

I think BBC Radio Two should keep the older listeners happy and differentiate its playlist from the mainstream commercial sector during daytime

It's supposed to serve all ages 35 plus.

I'm 45 and it's really putting me off,I listened to that stuff growing up i want to expand my musical tastes and find new things not be stuck in the past but by the same token Radio one and commercial radio is too poppy for me.

I'd agree and have Radio 2 playing a wider range of new music in all sorts of genres, including that by artists that their audience grew up with.

On the other hand it's a breakfast show so much of the audience isn't listening that intently so to me there's still need for a range of reasonably familiar tunes but different to the very predicatable fare, based on music testing, the commercial sector offer.

They do use the breakfast programme to trail their off peak more specialist schedule, today they plugged the Joe Bonassa concert.

I agree entirely and have discussed this on the long "controversy" thread. It changed instantly when CE took over and is a massive step backwards, in more ways than one. It has succeeded in driving me away almost completely, to 6Music (when I have access) or Absolute.

I really don't like it but Im one of those people who sticks the radio on when i wake up and listens through I am not a great one for flitting until jeremy whine comes on when I change to radio7 or bargain hunt:o But if the music doesn;t pick up soon I am going to be forced to change and then i will forget to change back for ken bruce :(i thought Id start a new thread on the music cos the other ones a bit hard to plough through with the slanging match

Even Groove Armada and All Saints are now over 10years old..doesn't time fly.

In fact out of those 24, I can only see 6 from within the last 10 years.

I was going to say that but I thought I must be wrong even cant get you out of my head is from 2001.Im not asking that they play nothing old just that there's a fair mix like there used to be .I used to hear a song I liked on there look it up and maybe even get it from itunes now I know all the words to all the songs that they play .

    I agree, Fayecorgasm.

Even the odd (current) album track would make things a bit more interesting.

For example I'm sure if Chris gave a few plays to the absurdly catchy "This pretty face" from Amy MacDonald's current album it might encourage the record company to release it as a single.

I can understand the desire not to alienate the TOGS with a drastic change in music policy, but the TOGS were used to Wogan championing his favourites now and again with great success in the case of Eva Cassidy, for example.

Time for the music policy to take a few risks, maybe.

You're correct kasg - maybe what I was trying to say was; perhaps the producers thought that by playing it safe they wouldn't alienate the audience (who might be expecting Mr Evans to burst forth from their speakers with Dizzy Rascal and Iron Maiden)
