As a fellow Koppite, Paul, this is a constant source of aggravation to me but it seems to be an insurmountable problem, sadly! :(

You've got Radio Humberside on 1485/95.9 over there so there's no chance of you picking it up unfortunately unless you had a specialised set up with a directional aerial and a very good tuner. It's also on City and Citytalk on 96.7/105.9 which you may just be able to pick up depending on your location.

You could try Radio Stoke, although I think their AM only covers Vale and Crewe matches, and even if you could pick up FM you'd only get despondent when our celebrations are broadcast after we win (!)

Have you tried Radio City / City Talk?

I think the online rights are sold differently to the radio rights

It's live on Talk Sport 1053/1089am

It's well known that UK radio stations have to drop sports commentary from their online streams for rights reasons.

I wouldn't say that being a licence fee payer entitles you to hear BBC local radio outside their TSAs - that's why it's called "local" radio.

I'd advise you to move back home if you're a Scouser or support your local club instead :)

Not really, the BBC would needs to pay millions more for the online rights to every single game and you licence fee would need to be quite a bit higher. It's not as if it's the BBC who are stopping you from listening online, it's the people they are dealing with the clubs and the Premier League.

Or subscribe to the clubs online commentaries, which I believe they all have.

Radio Merseyside and Radio City have the LOCAL Liverpool and Everton contracts, it's like saying "I live in Australia for 6 months a year and the BBC don't provide me with Rotherham United commentaries" Why should they????

Picked out BBC Radio Merseyside on the net purely at random tonight.

A Linda McDermott and guests with a show about words plus a quiz.

Reminds me of earlier radio. Surprisingly good stuff. And on until 1am. :)

    ............Well this is really lovely.

A discussion between two pleasant knowledgeable people.

Subject - all kinds of film, TV and theatre in the past.

It is like the friendlier aspects of the Steve Allen show but late at night.

And programmes you could hear on LBC in the 1970s.

And BBC local radio in the North in the early 1980s.

I can hardly believe it is on in 2014. :)

About a year ago they were running a looping message on 1485AM saying that Radio Merseyside might shortly continue only on FM/DAB/Online but a year on and the AM seems to be carrying on strong, any idea what their plans might be?
The AM signal could be a way to listen to R Merseyside's football in quite distant locations across North Wales, Derbyshire, Cumbria etc.

The Linda McDermott show is quite a nice listen, good for a more chilled alternative to the Pete Price Phone-In on City. She has quite a soft version of the Liverpool accent, sort of adding a poshness to the accent. It's a bit how you'd imagine Paul McCartney's wife (if she'd been from Liverpool) to speak.

R Merseyside has with all the other BBC Local stations lost its own output from 7pm-10pm to the Mark Forrest (yawn) show, I hope the 10pm slot doesn't suffer a similar fate ultimately! I think you need local radio at late times and in the evening more than they think you do!

R Merseyside is treasured by many - presenters like Billy Butler and Roger Phillips are absolute legends, a bit like Paddy MacDee up in Newcastle.

And you saw that as an excuse to bump a six-year-old thread discussing the unavailability of online football commentary?

Impossible once you go over the top of the M62. Even if freak geography allowed it, Viking on 96.9 and one of those "Pap" stations on 105.8 from Hunsley would wipe it out.

Thank you. I found it quite difficult to "place" her so your posts are helpful. She genuinely seems to have a lot of general knowledge and is able to convey that in an interesting way. So too her regular guest who is something important at the Philharmonic. It made such a difference from all the usual political stuff emanating from London.

Normally I expect presenters and guests to be blustering but that definitely wasn't the case here. Also, the music was never intrusive. While it was on the light side and rather predictable. the selections were consistently strong. Obviously they were pitching the show mostly at one age group but there was enough in it to have wider appeal.

I might be wrong on this but it seemed to me that the station wasn't as committed as others to the nationwide BBC local radio idents which if so is another plus. I will explore the station more and especially return to her programme although she said she is now away until next Friday. I do agree with your comments on the Mark Forrest show.

Actually I tried to get Radio City first to see what it was like but for some reason it was unavailable last night on the net to here. Because there were those access issues and it was Liverpool radio and I wanted to praise what I heard, this seemed to be the most suitable thread. The heading itself wasn't about football although that was mentioned in a sentence in the OP. Perhaps if BBC local radio had more positive feedback on the forum, every thread about BBC Radio Merseyside wouldn't have been several years old. I would like to read more regular comments about it.

Radio Merseyside should be allowed its own idents, as should any other BBC Local stations, it rankles me to hear the nationwide jingles because how is that in the spirit of "local" radio? Same with City now which has had its very good imaging taken away in favour of Bauer-wide imaging. Rock FM used to sound very good too before this happened.

And does anyone actually like the Mark Forrest show, you'd have to question the point of it even from their money saving perspective.; They could give the airtime to community radio stations and student groups in the evenings instead and that would be a lot more positive.
