Apparently he mentioned it on Twitter last year but got into trouble with BBC for saying he'd been talked into appearing. Good job it wasn't a bigger speaking role tho eh.
The fact he's had a number one single must have at least something to do with it
Yes, but the charts mean nothing in the 21st Century. Let's face it, this guy is hardly Elvis, is he? I think appearing in Doctor Who is probably a greater achivement that having a number one single in this day and age.

I didn't even know the charts still existed. I thought they died with Top of the Pops.
Wow is this the out of touch with real life thread..
Mike Skinner is the lead in a previously best selling group The Streets. Try not to sound like you have never listened to the radio or looked round digital spy when you post..
Least someone googled his name before claiming their ignorance was cool :-)

and hes ok..ish
You're obviously still young. When you get to a certain age, showing ignorance, or better still, comtempt for modern popular culture (Doctor Who excepted, of course!) is an increasingly desirable attitude to adopt. When one's youth is well and truly over it definitely becomes cool to be uncool.

Not everyone is interested in the same things. I listen to the radio-but Radio 2, Radio 4 and BBC 7 aren't really likely to showcase this bloke's kind of music, I suspect. Out of touch with the kind of stuff important to teenagers is not out of touch with 'real life'.
