If i mentioned this song to my brother he would rant the same way You are right though, it is awful.
It truly is awful and it sounds like your brother has a good sense about spotting banal songs of recent years at any rate!
Speaking of the track in question, it came on when I was at the gym the other evening. As there was nobody else using the gym at the time, I went around and switched all of the TVs off despite the fact I had yet to put my headphones and mp3 player on. A childish reaction I know but it made me feel like I was getting my own back at the song!
