I know that, it would be good to see some polls generally though before that. Plus there will not be elections everywhere, only in some places across the country. My council elections where done in full last year etc.

Why the need for politicians to be involved then? Surely it should be based on what the local candidate can do for the area, not what the national party say?

Are you in some kind of alternate reality? Do you think that posting your bluster on here is going to change things? :D

Actually yes it can change things. If someone is lurking on DS for example and sees the usual Tory boys sneering at low paid workers, the poor, the disabled and unemployed then that message is received and that person can make a judgement on that. And that is to oppose or support that view, then that person can then get active or make political choices based on their political preference and in some cases get involved and active in politics. Why do you think people like Obama, Cameron et al all have twitter, Facebook accounts maintained by their staff? it's about getting messages across that can strike a chord. So yes whatever we write, even here, can make a difference.
The mass movement you keep on hoping will materialise never does.... Most people are just getting on with their lives, quite content.

Tell that to the unemployed, the low-paid, the sick, the disabled, students, public and private sector workers getting the shaft, Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Soldiers, Police etc who are fed up of getting the sh*t end of the stick. People are not content far from it, they're angry but they don't know how or where to channel this anger to use it against the Government. The only people who are content is Politicians, those people involved in finance like yourself, Tory supporters, banksters and the corporations where they are making millions if not billions worth of profit.

Hopefully this new recession will get people politicised and mobilised especially when they see their standard of living being decimated along with their towns and cities.

Local MP's usually have to toe the party line, don't they?

Oh no. The Scottish Labour Party is autonomous.

Its leader Johann Lamont controls all Labour politicians who represent Scottish seats at ALL political levels, or so the publicity goes.

Bit more difficult to see in practice when Ed Miliband comes up and Johann sits at her master's feet.

Indeed - but, sadly, we have this link between politics and the local and national level, with local candidates finding themselves appraised based on the record and actions of a completely different group of people somewhere else.

It makes a mockery of the whole thing.
