Good job I'm off! Andrew is ok, but nothing on Nick. The only person I'd like covering Nick is J O'B or Steve, of course!

It'll give me a chance to try some music breakfasts. Has Dean Martin's started yet? Otherwise it's Magic Newcastle for Anna. Hope she's not off!!

Nowt wrong with John Stapleton btw, I just don't listen at 4pm these days.

Great to hear Chas and Dave's Margate as an ad these days :)

A clip from the above link:

..........."A James O’Brien-type of presenter was just what I had in mind when I called for better manners and more measured interviewing (a style, I hasten to add, that is shared by many candidates inside the BBC, including regular Newsnight faces)."

This cannot be the same James O'B. In addition Forbes writes, his style of presenting as "laconic." Oh yeah!! I bet this 'show-casing' is a deliberate wind-up by the author. I couldn't help but observe these "try-outs" for replacing Paxman are taking place in, "August the silly season." Hmmmm... I rest my case. :kitty: :D

Later this year at the Manchester Royal Exchange theatre there's an evening with Shami Chakrabarti. Yes, it's Shami, the "one woman show". Oops sorry I should probably say "one person show".

Seriously. People are going to PAY to listen to that?:confused::confused:

I'd rather have my eardrums perforated with a red hot knitting needle.

However in case you want to book (Clitheroe) it's only a tenner and you can do it in 2 hours riding on a Virgin. Treat yerself!

Ive seen some good stuff at The Exchange. Saw Tom Courtney in King Lear years ago. what a performance!

I would rather listen to Katie Hopkins than the odious and disingenuous champagne socialism that Brian peddles any day of the week. Thats how bad he is.

In fact I think I would rather listen to James Max's dog, Barnaby barking for 3 hours than listen to Brian pontificating pompously on LBC.
Yet you still listen to JO'B regularly like clockwork and comment on what he says. How does that figure?

On JO'B as a possible replacement for Paxman the Beeb are going to need someone rather dogged and argumentative to pull the viewers back to Newsnight, else it will slowly die. It would not surprise me if he gets that gig should he prove himself in August. The only other candidates I could see taking over from Paxman would be Eddie Mair or maybe Nick Robinson. But the appointment of JO'B might yet surprise us all.

Interesting call to Iain Dale this evening about the link between Satanism and the paedophile networks that are rapidly becoming uncovered. Just a shame the caller mentioned names or it could have opened a whimsical of worms that I doubt Mr Dale would have wanted...amazing how the discovery of Savile' s real behaviour still has to come out. What a shameful string of events over many, many years...

I heard that call, I couldn't believe it. The bloke was going into David Icke mode I think it's just as well Iain Dale cut him off. Making assumptions about the Ted Heath like that was just stepping over the line a little too much.

They actually seemed to rate that ridiculous interview he did with Farage impying it was Paxmen-esque and worthy of a hard hittting presentation style. God forbid, and I thought the forbes blogs were meant to be quite highly regarded.

No no no, you're entirely wrong. Always it's been said on here, J O'B is not telegenic, and that's why things have gone bottoms up for him in terms of any sustained 'visual' media exposure.

PS. Now will you accept a slap on the wrist at the very least, of course(!), for inaccuracies?

It's all on line if you care to spend some time googling. Not that being on line makes anything true of course, but as this business goes on I'm coming to the conclusion that most of it probably is.

I hope Gobber does, I could do with a laugh. Stewie will have a great time jeering him on his choice of shirts too.

The rumours have been around for many years and unfortunately I think you're right in assuming that they are probably true. The horror of it all.

Hmmm, I think there could well be truth in what the caller said about Satanism. Not much would shock me now. Icke has been very, very right about Savile for years .

I can't see Brian being up to the job. His Farage interview was dreadful and hugely embarrassing.

I only listen to Brian for 3 or 6 (maximum) hours per week. This is to monitor how often he talks about his torture at a public school and how pompous is.

I'm still having sleepless nights over their production df Sweeney Todd a few months ago. God it was gory!

I think James would struggle to maintain the BBC's policy of neutrality.

There is concern about Left-wing bias on the BBC as it is without the Left-wing anti Conservative zealot Gobber moving in.

Then Gobber will not being breaking down doors to the BBC, so in a nutshell it 'ain't about to happen re: him moving in :D. As you can see this could cause carnage to the Beeb's 'supposed' political neutrality?

I was surprised that J O'B castigated the letter sent by a head teacher to pupils to console them should their exam results not be very good. I thought the soppy, right-on sentiment would have appealed to him but he took a very beady-eyed view. And it now turns out that she'd cribbed it off an American education reformer's blog. Toby Young has been similarly scathing about it on his Telegraph blog.

I thought we'd moved on from referring to presenters by unpleasant and/or childish nicknames.

The BBC left-wing bias? If you watch Newswatch, recently viewers have been concerned about BBC right wing bias, including occasional LBC presenter Owen Jones.

Owen Jones and Brian are two peas in a pod.

The sentiments of the letter were admirable but the grammar in it left something to be desired. I would have thought a headteacher would have known better.

Owen Jones wasn't privately educated nor does he live in Chiswick.

I understand he's regularly reviewed papers om Sky TV for years, and appeared on BBC QT so not really true And Paxman is hardly telegenic, but who cares?
I think James would struggle to maintain the BBC's policy of neutrality.
He'll be fine. If he really want's the job he's not going to be the self-indulgent ego that he is on LBC and will be well aware that he'll have to toe the line. But the fact that the Beeb have offered him a trial clearly shows that they are interested. I just hope he doesn't try to over-impress and rattle interviewees on Newsnight like he did with Farage and IDS. If he does that he will blow it.
