I guess I should have gone with the symphonic metal song. It wouldn't have made any difference. Both of my songs will be out once again
I don't really understand why Norway was so disliked. It seems like a fairly normal song to me.
So in the end, it looks like I get the exact same results as last time. One song missing out by one spot and the other will very likely get last in it's RF.
I gave 1 point to Iceland (but loathed that song with an almighty passion), and 8 points to the Faroe Islands. The rest I'm not particularly sad to see go.
...now, when I'm deciding my points for each round in these contests, I give it a mark out of ten. There's a song in this RQ that I could not conceivably give less than 10/10. That's never happened before. What a perfect song. This song made me sit and forget everything. I had to listen to it multiple times before I could move on. Major kudos to whoever entered it.*
Not exactly an unexpected elimination for yours truly to be honest - ditched the "quirky" entry at the last minute for what I thought was something safe... Never the best strategy at the best of times and in hindsight this was fairly insipid.
Really glad Liechtenstein went through - love this.
The final RQ is about to begin in St Helier, 14 nations which border the Mediterranean Sea (well, you get the idea) have come to the Channel to do battle, here they are:
Please PM me your vote in standard Eurovision style, 12, 10, 8-1.
If you are in this heat, you MUST vote or a giant yoshi will come round & eat you (your song will also be disqualified).
If you are not in this heat, but are in this contest, you may vote individually but it's not compulsory (the more the merrier though).
The top 8 will go to the semis. Voting will close on FRIDAY 1 AUGUST AT 7PM with results around 8.
Happy voting, & good luck
Well you have a few busy days and all hell breaks off! Just spent nearly 2 hours catching up! Never liked any of the vocal fake people so not going to miss them. Shouldn't say this but hoping, that there will be 3 DQs in the 5th qualifier so maybe, if I'm super lucky I can have a semi-finalist for the first time in what seems like ages.
Also I saw earlier something about not allowing people who have not posted more than 100 comments, but personally I don't think thats a good idea, as when I joined a few contests ago I did so only for this, and people like me in the future would be prohibited from doing so, which I personally think would be sad and bad for numbers in the long run.
Russia - I'm sure the Russians will appreciate being represented by a song in German. Quite an interesting background Helene has, although Krasnoyarsk probably isn't the greatest place in the world to grow up. This whole song doesn't really seem right for Russia, it's perfect Fernsehgarten fodder, stick her by a massive swimming pool and she's happy. Lebanon - People are just trying to confuse me here, now it's a Lebanese song about a World Cup that happened a month ago in Brazil. My favourite lyric is 'kick the ball'. If it was Waka Waka it might have just got away with it, it's not quite at that level but could still qualify. Gotland - This shouldn't work as a choice for Gotland, but I like it. I could see it as the mental song they roll out at Melodifestivalen every now and again. Georgia - Seriously, this is the most random start to a quarter final I can remember, now it's a song called Gibberish. Azerbaijan - We can be heroes, the lyrics seem familiar somehow, I just can't place it. This is a good song though, especially for Azerbaijan. Robot dancing aplenty. Kazakhstan - This is ok, decent enough for Kazakhstan. Sweden - Fairly good, although always going to be compared to Busy Doin' Nothin' Aland Islands - This is pretty decent, one of the best from Finland for a while, the percussion reminds me a bit of Beautiful Lies. Latvia - Not sure about this, I feel sorry for Giorgia being dragged down by Olly Murs. Estonia - Two big stars in Estonia, and they had a duet that did quite well on the other thread. It's not bad. Armenia - Very ethnic, which doesn't always tend to work with Armenia, but could be worse. Western Asia - It's not the best. Uzbekistan - Catchy and slightly deranged, this is a song after my own heart! Finland - It's a bit different, not bad.
My 8 to qualify:
Lebanon
Gotland
Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan
Sweden
Aland Islands
Uzbekistan
Finland
Just finished RQ 4 & 5. It's a very strong contest for the "bad" countries this time around. I think for all 5 of the RQs I've given the majority of points to bad countries.
RQ5 was my favourite by far. Loved San Marino, Tunisia and Portugal.
Also, wonder if Gotland could be a contender for the win. Without the rapping, the song is pretty amazing. Shame he spoils it. Wonder how many people it will put off, though.

Gotland 8
Georgia 4

Kazakhstan 5
