How many British cities are big enough to host future commonwealth games
Not usually a watcher of this but glasgow is big enough to host a reasonably good games.
Manchester in the past, london unlikely to do it for a long time.
Edinburgh in the past but I don't think it's big enough for a modern games.
Probably only Birmingham and Cardiff maybe in the future or perhaps Liverpool

Maybe a joint bid from Sheffield and Leeds for a Yorkshire Commonwealth Games?
I think Bristol were planning to make a bid at some point too.
If anything, London is too big for the CG. It's better going to smaller cities so that it can raise their profile and drive investment.
Belfast would be interesting, especially if the Republic were invited to send a guest team.
Not sure about inviting those southern bushwhackers , they made such a infernal hoo-ha about leaving the British Empire in the first place it's unlikely they would be willing to take part, but Belfast should put in a bid.
I think London wanted it and Manchester got it....:)
As for the other cities, any of the larger metropolitan areas usually with regional support should be able to hold it. Accommodation is often an issue though. More so than sports facilities which are normally ok even if you have to send some sports 40 miles up the road. Glasgow has nearly sold out despite the tripling and quadrupling of hotel/B&B prices. Derby got turned down in the England 2018 bid for its lack of accommodation rather than its stadium which was fine.
Hotel availability is certainly one of the key factor when it comes to awarding sporting events. London probably has more hotel rooms than almost any city in the world but other UK cities do struggle, even when it comes to hosting UEFA finals.
Once the organisers, sponsors and broadcasters pre-book whole hotels then the number of rooms left for spectators is always going to be limited. That's why I, and a lot of other people, are stopping in Edinburgh this weekend.
Newcastle could do it on their own, no need to involve that lot down the road.
Edinburgh is bigger than Cardiff, then and now.
It helps that Scotland is quite small, so even if some events aren't in Glasgow, everything feels Scottish. Wales and Northern Ireland could do that too. A bid for England could come from 'Yorkshire', with, for example, Leeds being the official host city, but some events being held in and around Sheffield, Bradford and York.
That way, the regeneration money can go into facilities that will continue to be used, and less need to build pointless new stadia. If the region has some decent quality football or rugby stadia, including one that can be transformed, Hampden Park style, it doesn't require silly money.
I take it you mean third rate because it is the third largest multi-sport event in the world??;-)
Well the Don Valley stadium has been demolished. World Student Games anyone?
