Its ironic really us debating whether a national UK channel will be broadcast FTA in HD
This is 2016 & the UK is years behind the rest of Europe
Most broadcasters are switching to DVB S2 some are in the process of switching to HD only
I think instead of launching 2nd rate tv stations in vhs quality broadcasters should streamline number of channels & focus on having HD as standard
BTW thanks to everyone on here for keeping us informed on developments
Thanks for your kind remarks and same from me to everyone else who has done the same.
You are right in that we are too far behind Europe and in my view, the UK is a laughing stock.
1: BBC English regions - you still have to switch back to a 1994 transmission format - ie DVB-S MPEG2, to watch regional news
2: BBC2 25% HD - still 3 regions missing
3 Not all ITV regions are in HD - but there will be 10 before long out of 23 - less than half way there - currently only 30% there!
C4 16% HD - only London is at full picture quality
C5 - 100% HD but still behind a paywall - the day when C5 changes can't come soon enough!
On radio, the BBC is still trying to get Start Point back to full power - it's 2016 and they want to repair an old MEDIUM WAVE site - they are in the dark ages on this. The rest of Europe is leaving MW - Germany, France and Luxedmbourg no longer have medium wave transmitters - France has one actually - 1593 kHz Britagne 5. Netherlands also stoped PSB medium wave in September.
Now mainly it is only the UK that has hundreds of medium wave outlets - about time many of these were closed given that DAB now has 97% coverage.
On DAB - we still use original DAB - only one DAB+ station on the way so far - most of the rest of Europe are looking at analogue switch off and DAB+ only. Germany has DAB+ only, as well as FM, but in the UK we still plod on on 1920s and 1950s and 1990s transmission formats - a message to those in charge - COME INTO THE 21ST CENTURY - PLEASE!!!!
You are right in principle of course, but the amount of bandwidth freed up by switching off analogue radio would be tiny compared with that freed by the analogue television switch off.
There just isn't that incentive to go digital only with radio.
Also many people consider that, with a good signal, the FM transmissions, 1950s technology though they are, are superior quality to DAB.
Of course that's a failing of DAB, which should be better in every respect!

Could BT have acquired the Extreme Sports EPG slot and EPG number, wonder if we'll see something launch on EPG 419/420 in due course?
The schedule I can see only goes up to 1200 on saturday 30 january at present. There are more repeats of the above, plus some Serie A for a few hours mid morning on Saturday.
There is Live WTA tennis at 3am. If need be I will find the full list for Saturday 30th when I can later on.
However, I spoke to BT and they know nothing about this schedule. On the BT website, nothing matches these listings. So the mystery deepens. The person I spoke to at BT said they were not releasing any new channels as far as he was aware.

Cool we finally have something!
Well almost once the closed encryption is reduced to normal subs encryption, or even better removed completely which is the eventual way it will be.
Are you absolutely certain of that?
Yes
Yippee!!
I had a feeling that was the case - just needed confirmation.
Is there a date yet?
Not publicly there isn't.

This digital TV platform is struggling to pay its partners minimum guarantees on time.
