I really like John Grant's voice - strong with a lovely soulful timbre to it. I first heard him on his/The Csars' album of covers 'Sorry I Made you Cry', more recently on his solo albums 'Queen of Denmark' and 'Pale Green Ghosts'.
I also think that Glen Campbell might have been somewhat underrated as a singer. His voice was perfect for those Jimmy Webb songs of yearning, especially my absolute favourite - 'Wichita Lineman'.

yeah i like wichita lineman too.... plus 'by the time i get to phoenix' .
For outstanding technical ability, vocal range, versatility, soul and incredible interpretation, I am throwing Mick Hucknall into the ring.
Rockwise, Danny Bowes from Thunder is a very underrated vocalist. Other great vocalists (imo) include Ian Gillan, David Coverdale, Dio, Paul Rodgers, Chris Cornell and Brent Smith.
I'm sure everyone knows about Rickrolls - when you click a link and you get Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up... this isn't a Rick Roll - more like a sandwich roll.... I feel hungry...
But seriously, I think Rick Astley could/might/perhaps is the greatest male singer ever.
Check out this version of NGGUP and the bit at 2 mins 32 seconds when he signs "and when you ask me how I'm feeling.."
I've never heard anyone sing better than that. PERIOD.
I prefer his voice to Elvis Presley/Frank Sinatra and others. His face doesn't match his voice which can be a little off-putting, perhaps *(Elvis Presley had an amazing voice and face) but Rick Astley voice - when he sings at his best - is insanely good! He's the James Bond of male singers. LOL
Erm . . . . ..

But it does seem that those with deep, masculine voices are being pushed to the front in this thread...
I think Greg Gilbert from Delays is fantastic, here he is on record....

Here is a bit of Mick to back up my post. Three-and-a-half octaves in this song and it's sung live. I use it for ear bleach after X Factor.

What has whether or not someone is still singing got to do with the quality of their voice?
Many different factors can bring about the end of someone's singing career and it's rarely anything to do with the quality of their voice.
Ridiculous post.
