Converting .mus extension file to .mp3

I have some music on my PC that has the extension file of .mus, and I would prefer them in the format of .mp3. I'm not particularly brilliant with computers, but I would like to know the quickest way of converting the files, possibly without downloading anything (although would consider if there was no other way), if any of you would be able to help me?
Thank you

Where did you get them from?
There are a few suggestions on here:

I got them from a game CD, they're the game soundtracks/music (in-game).
Thanks , already seen that website on my first round of Googling, wondered if I could convert them via DOS, and how would I go about doing this?
Have you tried just renaming them and playing them in whatever you normally use for music?
Not from an old DOS game in the first place are they?
In which case, this thread:

... seems to think they are more like MIDI than MP3.
