I'm sure it was confirmed that there would be 16 celebrities this year, now there's only going to be 15 couples because Joanne Clifton isn't competing with a partner...
That's like labelling Alan Shearer a football pundit.
In other news, Janette is loving the new line up, in spite of all you naysayers out there:

I am LOVING this group of celebrities! So much fun & so much talent as well! It's going to be a good year! #StrictlyCelebs @bbcstrictly
As Mandy R-D famously said...'well she WOULD say that, wouldn't she'
.....ok she said 'he' not 'she'...but you get my drift!
This has to be the least interesting bunch of 'celebs' ever to grace SCD. And I say that as an SCD fan.
The fact that old chestnuts like Jamelia and Peter Andre are being touted as 'stars' is frankly laughable. Not to mention the number of BBC employees thrown into the mix.
Whats also embarassing and annoying is the way Flack used SCD last year to raise her profile for her return to XF...
The bookies already seem to have made their minds up who the 'dancers' are this time round....GM-F, Andre, Gallagher.....
Really it will have to pull something out of the bag not to get blown away by XF this year.
If only. Enjoy what you enjoy. Sadly obsessing on what you dislike appeals far more for some.
I know , I just don't get that dedication to complaining and putting people down . If I disliked any competitors that much I just couldn't abide watching them , not even to ridicule or moan about them . I'll save my moaning till I see what they are made of on the dance floor ;-) .

It is not so much scraping the bottom of the barrel, but having to go looking for old discarded barrels that have been dumped in a toxic, rat-infested, waste tip next to a sewage outlet.

Big Brother is a reality show known for its drama and controversy. The celebrities they have are mainly reality stars as they're the most suited to that style of show. However saying that, the likes of Janice Dickinson and Bobby Davro are more recognisable to me than a lot of Strictly's cast this year..

BIB. Jamelia and Peter Andre would be A list compared to the trashy line up on CBB.
Different audiences. They couldn't pay me enough to watch XF. Grimshaw and Ora plus smug Simon and saccharine Cheryl, and loads of sob stories, no thanks.
I think the line up is great and better than the last few years. I know of all of them except the soap stars and the sports guys. And so what if a number of them are on the BBC, most are freelance anyway. Maybe some aren't celebs as people think of them now, they actually have jobs!
The line up for CBB is just trash TV.
As others have said though, it all comes down to how they actually dance and gel with their partners. It doesn't matter whether we know them or like them or not.
I wasn't at all impressed with last year's line-up when it was announced but I still enjoyed it.
I'd say there are up to seven people in the CBB cast that I think they'd definitely at least consider having on Strictly (Daniel, Gail, Natasha, Sherrie, maybe Bobby, maybe Christopher, maaaaaaaaaaaybe Janice if they could get enough tranqs) so I don't think it's as clear cut as that. Obviously as it stands the reality cast-offs and the pornies I don't think they'd touch with a barge-pole, but it's not as huge a chasm as all that.

BIB: There's over-exaggeration, and then there's being borderline stupid. Strictly has well and truly beaten the X Factor for the last five or so years now in the ratings, and will continue to do so until the X Factor's already-broken ship finally sinks. So making ridiculous sweeping statements just because you don't like the line-up really just makes you look silly.
And what on earth do Caroline Flack and the bookies have to do with the calibre of this year's cast?
So Kirsty did ballet and tap as a child, and Helen seems to have some dance background too. Kellie may have a similar dance background to Emma Bunton. Jay, Peter and Jamelia are going to be good dancers and Georgia has a background in contemporary dance. Ainsley, Katie and Anita look like they can move.
I think this may turn out to be the highest average dance potential celeb group for years, and almost all the pros are going to have something to work with.
BIB: There's over-exaggeration, and then there's being borderline stupid. Strictly has well and truly beaten the X Factor for the last five or so years now in the ratings, and will continue to do so until the X Factor's already-broken ship finally sinks:
Strictly started beating X Factor in 2012, and the ratings gap between the show has been fairly consistent since, at about 1.2 million. So if X Factor is sinking then Strictly is sinking at more or less the same rate.
Regardless Simon's comments read more as a dig at Peter Andre then specifically at Strictly (certainly compared to the nastiness X Factor have indulged in about the show in the past). He also specifically says that he won't say that X Factor will win because the comment would probably come back to haunt him. If they're sane (lol) I can't imagine they're expecting particularly great things from X Factor this year anyway. The scheduling's going to kill it when they have to drag Boot Camp out for over a month, and all the pre-press is about how "we're just looking for a bit of fun this year, who cares if we find a star?" which is effectively admitting defeat in the bigger picture from the off. The only really annoying thing they've done so far is hype up how they're going to whinge a lot about and blame the BBC for what are obviously unavoidable clashes in the schedules, which I'm already frankly beyond bored of.

The scheduling issues are because ITV are showing the Rugby World cup, with home nation matches on Saturdays at 8pm.
It has nothing to do with anything regarding the BBC, it is a self-inflicted own goal by TPTB at ITV.
You almost have to sympathise with Cowell, as he has revamped the XF judging panel, probably at the request of ITV Executives, only to find his show has to be bounced around the schedules to accommodate a sporting event that does not appeal to his show's demographic.
This is just another symptom of the current Executives at ITV Towers refusing to accept any form of criticism, or accepting responsibility for any mistakes.

Oh. I thought I'd read somewhere on here that Strictly has been winning in the 'Ratings Battle' since 2010 - where from, I can't remember, but I do recall reading that. Still, my point stands (even if I'd made myself look like a bit of a turkey ).
Also, I've just checked online, and the difference between the two programs started out at approximately 1.2 million, as you said, but from around Halloween onwards, Strictly was, more often than not, ahead of X Factor by roughly 2-3 million each week, so I wouldn't agree that they're sinking at the same rate.
There was another series of a similar type to this a few years ago, and I remember them commenting on the celebs from that year in the following year, saying they were going to try very hard to get bigger names, saying there had been a lacklustre reaction. Has there been a change of producer or anything?
For me there are four problems.
1. Longevity of the show - a blessing and a curse. It means that it performs well, but conversely it also means that a lot of celebs will have already done the show over its lifespan. We are also a smaller country than America, where Dancing with the Stars is based and don't have so big a talent pool to draw upon.
2. I think the cuts are bound to have bitten somewhere. Even on your most popular show, something has to give.
3. With so many big shows running all year round now, especially in the television world it is probably harder to find stars who are able to give the commitment that Strictly requires without their day job suffering. As well as this, it's probably harder to find producers who will sanction it. In the music world you see so many celebs training on the hoof in strange locations because they have concerts etc, which also puts the budget up as you need crew to travel with them, whereas if you just send a crew to the dance studio it's cheaper.
4. They probably want to avoid a repeat of the Caroline scenario.
I fear that this series may look a little pedestrian in comparison to a refreshed X-Factor.
Strictly was ahead of X Factor for a few weeks in 2011 - Halloween and Wembley were both definitely ahead of X Factor (probably one or two other weeks too), with the former being a watershed moment because it was the first time Strictly had been ahead for so long. Since 2012 it's been consistently beating X Factor every week.
This must be the most lacklustre line-up since the show began. Mind you, I'm still surprised that there's nobody from Casualty and Holby City!
I have to ask, what was so sparkling about series one?
A Holby Actress, A breakfast presenter, a singer, a ringer(/ Loose Woman), a sportsman, a comedian, an Eastenders actor and a daytime tele presenter.
The line up this year seems fairly traditional to me
Simon Cowell is steaming mad at having his schedule messed up and is panicking regarding the overlap , so anything he says can be ignored .Tooting your own trumpet never pays off . In the early stages it will be the adult watchers making up the figures, later the tweenies will be glued to it .
He is depending on this series to give him the replacement for 1D and needs our full attention .Daft git . The little lassies will still be watching as long as the judges play the game and put lots of cute little 1D style desperate boys through .

I disagree there is a great spread there, I see The Sun ( R Murdock owner) had a pop at SCD today, but still devoted two pages to it. This time if the year so bright spark says, we're doomed were doomed, then it goes to the best ever.
Before John Sargent started, before Ann Whitticombe started did we know how funny they would be? Some people pre judge, pre moan, well they can go and watch X Factor where it's all scripted and a pantomime.
This is a celebrity line up, that I am a celebrity, or Big Brother would die for, I think if it was on ITV with Ant and Dec some negative posters here would say how wonderful it is.

Why do you keep comparing it to different shows which have entirely different formats..
It's always expected for Strictly to have the best lineup as its
A) Well respected and not seen as "tacky" or "career damaging" like the other two it's the highest rated
C) It's a more desirable format where you can still
live your normal life and see your family and friends. You're not embroiled in a house of controversy and arguments or stuck sleeping outside in a jungle while being tortured with rats, spiders etc.
However this year's lineup is like something you'd expect from the jungle tbh

Well there are no vacuous underwear/bikini models in this years line up - most of them famous mainly for shagging famous men, I haven't watched the jungle in ages but I gather that's the norm on that show now. To me the fact they haven't got a WAG signing on this years strictly is a massive plus.
