Looks like Microsoft will be doing an announcement about the future of Windows 9 (if that's what they decide to call it) in April 2014. Coincidently Windows XP support ends on 8th April 2014 along with Office 2003.

Hopefully Windows 9 will be more successful than Windows 8. By 1 January, Windows 8/8.1 had scraped up just 13 per cent market share.

Isn't it some sort of trend that releases of Windows alternate between stinker and winner? That should make the next version a winner then.

Having said that, I use both Windows 7 and 8 daily and don't find Windows 8 that bad, just not as well thought out as it could have been.

Yep. But i'm happy with W7, Windows 9 would have to be an hell of an OS to make me change, or Microsoft could just squeeze us.....

Certainly can't be any worse than Windows 8/8.1

I agree that's why when buying my new desktop I stuck with windows 7. I heard win 8 could be problematic and I had my issues with Vista so wasn't keen to repeat that mistake

Hopefully will DX12 be backwards compatible with Windows 8?

Also will it mean we'd have to buy new GPUs?

I'm sure DX12 will work on Windows 8. You MIGHT need a new GPU to take advantage of new features but in general a new version of DX doesn't require new hardware, you just don't get all the bells and whistles.
