Three years ago I was shocked to be told by my dentist that I would need a partial denture. Three adjoining teeth ( incisor, canine and pre molar) were in various states of health and the dentist advised they should be removed, including the remaining root of a previously capped one. The treatment went ahead and the partial denture fitted.

It really didn't take long to get used to it. I hardly know I,m wearing it most of the time.

So, don't worry, all will be OK.

I have 2 teeth on a partial denture from an accident when I was a kid.

You get used to them pretty quickly.

The funny thing is, if I take them out now I start talking with the biggest lisp that I don't have with them in or never had before I had it.

I was hit in the face with a swing when I was a kid (Thank you big sister!)

Smashed my nose and had nothing but trouble and pain with my front upper six teeth for 30 plus years.

I had them patched up but over the years, one by one they were replaced by crowns, which loosened and had to be removed.

Then bridges, that loosened and eventually failed!

When my dentist told me the best course of action was to remove what roots were left and be replaced with a six tooth parial denture I was horrified.

That was six years ago and was the best thing I have ever done.

After a couple of weeks I forgot I was wearing it.No more pain, discomfort or worry and the best looking teeth I have ever had!

I only wish I had it done sooner;-)

Without being too cheeky, how much are partial dentures?

i'm trying to conserve a couple of teeth that will probably have to go sooner or later.

my problem about partial dentures is i don't get the whole business of the plate (palate?) bit that looks like it covers the roof of your mouth. i think i could probably manage something that didn't include that but i'm not sure what the criteria is or how it works.... :p (me, minus teeth...)

    None what so ever.

They are stronger than my previous teeth!:)

It just takes a couple of weeks to get used to.

I have broken a tooth off twice, once from a good walrus apple and once at Christmas on a Terry's chocolate orange... That's the only trouble I've had and they can fix it on the same day if you get an early appointment otherwise over night. Apparently once a tooth comes off it weakens it and will likely fall off again at some point.

I lost 4 front teeth at 10 years old when I fell off my bike (those were the days when teeth couldn't successfully be reinserted) . So got my dentures at 11 and honestly don't know any better. Went to full upper in my 40s, then lower in my 60s.
