A one-off special of Torchwood is being made to air on BBC Radio 4 in the summer.

The story will work around a particle accelerator and has been planned to coincide with the opening of the world's biggest particle accelerator in Switzerland.

Dug up from the depths, after a forum search ;)

I've been scouting round, but still can't find a broadcast date for this - although the accelterator is due to go through testing this weekend. Anyone seen any news about when this is on?

There's no airdate for it since Radio 4 will be putting on their themed day of shows whenever the actual activation happens. And CERN haven't announced when exactly it will be yet.

It could and should prove to be interesting. It will be the first Torchwood without Owen and Tosh. It further adds to the medium that Torchwood can be accessed too. So, it may also prove that there does lie a commitment from Aunty to the series.

I wonder if it will be available as a Podcast or will it be released as an extra on TW s3 dvd boxset?

It's supposed to be released as an audio CD after broadcast, on its own and not part of the boxset.

that's handy to know, also if you have a DVD recorder which has freeview built in, you could record the radio play and listen to it on dvd.

Torchwood play is on R4 Wednesday 10th September, 2.15pm

    From R4 website:

    Afternoon Play: Torchwood
    Torchwood: Lost Souls

"Somewhere out there in that chaos of darkness and light, of science and protons, of gods and stars and death... somewhere there's an answer."

Martha Jones, ex-time traveller and now working as a doctor for a UN task force, has been called to CERN where they're about to activate the Large Hadron Collider. Once activated, the Collider will fire beams of protons together recreating conditions a billionth of a second after the Big Bang - and potentially allowing the human race a greater insight into what the Universe is made of. But so much could go wrong - it could open a gateway to a parallel dimension, or create a black hole - and now voices from the past are calling out to people and scientists have started to disappear...

Where have the missing scientists gone? What is the secret of the glowing man? What is lurking in the underground tunnel? And do the dead ever really stay dead?

Lost Souls is a spin-off from the award-winning BBC Wales TV production Torchwood. It stars John Barrowman, Freema Agyeman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd, Lucy Montgomery (of Titty Bang Bang) and Stephen Critchlow.

    Time: Wednesday 10th September, 2.15pm
    Writer: Joseph Lidster
    Producer/ Director: Kate McAll

    Here's another one (SPOILERS):

Torchwood Audio Play Calling to "Lost Souls"

And remember that Noel Clarke and Freema Agyeman are both busy with other projects – from what many of us newshounds can make out, they're not meant to be joining, and probably never were (although guest spots are not out of the question)
