Road House remake!

Yes one of the best, and most underrated, action films of the 80's gets a remake. But who's replacing Patrick Swayze? The talent vacuum that is Ronda bleeding Rousey. I shouldn't be annoyed, but I am.

So this is basically we want to shoehorn our wannabe star into a movie. What can we dredge up from history that might fit?

I thought the thing about Swayze was that he wasn't noted as being a hard man and even in the film when he started kick ass it was still a surprise, even though he was a famous cooler.

Well obviously Rousey can fight, so the fight scenes should be worth watching.

But then compared to Gina Carano, Rousey is almost De Niro-esque :)

Rousey hasn't really had any "proper" acting experience though, so I guess the film will either be a massive turkey or she'll surprise people.

I genuinely thought the appeal of 'Road House' was it's so bad it good. From the almost as bad as Top Gun levels of homoerotica to the hilariously terrible (but amusingly quotable) dialog 'It's my way of the Highway'. I didn't realise it was actually held up as a good movie (it really isn't!).

True. Some films are filet mignon with pommes dauphinoise. This is Big Mac with fries and extra cheese, which can be enjoyable under the right circumstances.

I don't know how the new version is going to match the magnificence of Kelly Lynch's portrayal of a doctor.

Damn right. Road House is up there with some of Arnie's 80's films as the epitome of 's*** but brilliant'.

I've always loved the ending where they shoot the bad guy and all have a bloody good laugh about it.

Ben Gazzara was also in it if I recall, my Mum loves him. Passed away a while back.

As long as they have the "You're gonna be my regular Saturday night thing!" scene.

I think the studio must have got cold feet about the savagery of the ending and told the makers to lighten it up a bit, hence the slapstick. It does jar a bit.

What are they going to do with the "I thought you'd be bigger" scene?
Unless she says it to some guy after he gets up on a table and does a striptease for her :D

It really annoys me when they do a remake that could otherwise be entertaining and get it wrong right from day one.

If you're going to remake a film then do it properly, and try to be true to the original.

Casting Rousey is just a populist gimmick which instantly undermines the whole project.

No doubt they'll cast a few more UFC non-entities who can't act, it'll end up with 1-star reviews and even the meathead UFC fans who they intend to market it to won't touch it with a barge pole.

And the opportunity to do a popular remake of a cult film will be wasted, because of a stupid casting/marketing gimmick.

If they want to remake it with some hardcore gay porn 'justified by context for mainstream 18 certificate' scenes, then fine by me.
