  You may find Iriver make flash memory players with line in option, which is handy for portable recording.
  
  Creative Zen V plus models are notable too.
  
  Otherwise if you have an ipod, you can purchase an attatchment 'belkin tunetalk' which comes with built in stereo mic recording, but also has a line in option.
  
  I use an old Iriver fp390 to record audio from a shortwave radio when shortwave listening.

  cheers for the info after a good search about i parted my cash on a bargain ex-display logik player/recorder which does the job i am looking for
