I know 1999 had other good offerings at the time. But surely Baby One More Time is not one to surpass this. Its manufactured pop at its worst, and sounds very dated. This is coming from a massive Britney fan - I love most of her songs, but Baby One More Time is drivel.

At least Look At Me sounds loud, bold, up to date, and you can dance and sing along to it.

This really has to be a joke

If i had to make a top ten of songs released in 1999 it would be:

Baby... One More Time - Britney Spears
    No Scrubs - TLC
    Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
Smooth - Santana (feat. Rob Thomas)
I Knew I Loved You - Savage Garden
I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys
Kiss Me - Sixpence None The Richer
If You Had My Love - Jennifer Lopez
    All Star - Smash Mouth
    Have You Ever? - Brandy

Wow, it really was a bad year for music.

Shes working on a new album just now.

Why bother though?? Her last single only sold about 300 copies in Australia and didn't even chart anywhere, though I can see why as it was a crap single/video with awful lyrics. Not many people will be interested in a former spice girl these days especially when she is not the world's greatest singer and thats putting it mildly.

Geri should just give it a day the album would be lucky to chart in the top 40 she follow the rest of the spice girls with reality TV judging and radio.

Maybe just maybe her fans who are left would appreciate an album and not its chart position.

Geri has her four solo consecutive number 1s that will put her in the record books. Now she probably just wants to release music because she enjoys it.

Britney actually wrote and composed Everytime herself and she also wrote Someday (I Will Understand) and My Baby from Circus. She has co-written and written several of her album songs and there are several unreleased songs that were written or co-written by Britney herself.

Hardly impressive though is it the bulk of her back catalogue has no writing input from her whatsoever.

I just always think an artist has more personal credibility if they write all their albums or at least have writing input on all the tracks. That is my opinion.

Him saying she has writing credit but asks not to be acknowledged for it was just ridiculous.

Personally my favourite song of 1999 (off the top of my head; there's probably a lot more, I just haven't got a clue what was released in what year) was Westlife's 'Flying Without Wings'. I know it's not a popular opinion, and I know it's extremely uncool, but back in 1999 in the days of boy bands when they were starting out their career and had original songs, it was a brilliant ballad. I was 10 then; 25 now, and I still love it so much.

I was a Spice Girls fan as a kid though... And although I was never a huge fan of Geri, I did get that album as a Christmas present and I still have a good few of the songs on my iTunes. Not a massive fan of Look At Me, but I did and still do like Lift Me Up and Walk Away.

LOL you're right! I just read the first bit on Google which called it a 1999 song, then they later say it was released in 2000 - it's their fault!

I looked into a little bit - and I discovered that both are correct (it was on the album "Reload" which came out in 1999 and was released as a single in 2000).

a creditable list which highlights the variety around in '99, reading this thread youd think it was all about 'pure' pop.

    i love push and thrillseekers.

It's a great song with cleverly cynical lyrics but it's not the best of 1999.
