Fascinating. I really enjoyed reading that. Interesting that they still use humans to build the computers rather than robots. Aren't they one of those companies who custom build PCs for people rather than selling el cheapo ones in PC World?

What I find interesting but also a nice thing as well is that they are still going strong in such a competitive world. Also, yes they do custom build PCs for people.

Yes its nice to see things being assembled by hand, I'm sure there are lots of things where robots are better (not just cheaper) but I can't see they would be better in building computers ..... I suppose you have to take into account human error.
I hope they stay doing well along with the other assemblers.
My dad did a project decades ago for IBM where they redesigned a component board for computer assembly. The computer beat the original assembly time. Then the humans beat the computer using the simplified components.
I'm pretty sure robots can't build computers, components yes, don't see them managing to insert a graphics card, screw the thing in and connect the cables. Would think cheap Chinese labour assembles the bulk produced PC's.

If buying mass produced, then Yes...Most of the custom PC makers mentioned in this thread are UK based.....So if you went down that route you could avoid the cheap Chinese labour and have one made by cheap British labour....;)

Even Novatech aren't making in huge bulk like someone like HP or Dell...they are pretty small scale still.
Funny you should choose those, because, yes I do actually....They pay minimum wage (£6.31 ph) and use a lot of casual labour...Only because I know someone who works there in Portsmouth...
I'm guessing the others work on a similar basis......Not condemning them....It's how things are now in the UK..

Sadly, there isn't always the concrete guarantee that British labor working conditions will necessarily be any better than Chinese labor!

Which ones are they?
I've heard of those. They advertise in the likes of Computeractive and PC Pro.

For starters:
PCS
OCUK
Scan
Chillblast
Mesh (still UK based, I'm fairly sure...)
CCL
QuietPC
Cyberpower..
I thought Mesh had gone out of business ages ago or are they still going?
And you would be right

Do you know what Novatech pay their staff then?

I didn't suggest they were mass volume.....

Sorry re-read what you posted and before and I misunderstood it
