"Earlier in the evening, Channel 5's Race to the Pole was seen by 317k (1.5%), while Ice Road Truckers played to 791k (3.4%)."
Not that it matters too much to 5 when they did very well after 21:00, but that's an awful start for Race to the Pole. Hasn't the 19:00 slot long been home to repeats? Maybe people aren't used to checking it out. Ice Road Truckers is a little anaemic but was probably nearer 0.9m with +1 and it has been on the History channel already.
Martin Lewis's money-saving production is a very cost-effective performer in the anti-EastEnders slot, close to (or over) 3m with +1.
What was Stars In Their Eyes last getting when it was on and what was its competition? I know the comparisons are vague but still, it would be interesting to see.
At last a new thread, the last one seemed to go on forever.
Tonight should be interesting. TV is facing far stronger competition than Splash, and I think for all TV should win its slot with 7 million, SITE should get 5 million. Should SITE stay strong, and bearing in mind its followed by the more popular SNT, I reckon TV should be down for this run. OK it's still a big deal for BBC One and far better than what they were showing two years ago, but ITV aren't playing dead this time.
CBB trending as I expected with 2-2.5 million tuning in. I think the show now seems settled on Channel 5 and I reckon it should play out to over 2 million again this series.
Shame April to July 2009 is missing. I really wanted to see the thread's reaction on the insane ratings Britain's Got Talent got during the Subo period. We hadn't seen ratings like those for ages

The 16th and 'final' series (before its current revival) was ten years ago. Here are the consolidated ratings on the night of the series opener, Saturday 15 January 2005:
BBC One
17:45 - FILM: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982): 4.41m
19:35 - The National Lottery - Jet Set: 6.49m
20:10 - Casualty: 9.10m
21:00 - Sea of Souls: 5.80m
22:00 - BBC News: 4.89m
ITV
17:45 - New You've Been Framed!: 4.52m
... [intervening programmes did not make weekly top 30 and were therefore less than 4.43m] 19:10 - Stars in Their Eyes: 5.78m
20:10 - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?: 6.09m
21:15 - Ultimate Force: 5.33m
From the clips I've seen it looks to me like SITE will be just for fun and not serious, not that it was originally, but its going up against a more supposedly serious programme.
Robbie - my dad and nan also called it Stars in Your Eyes. Always used to be bug me!

So SITE was still geting reasonable ratings after 13 years. I think it was rested, in the ITV speak of that era, as it was getting on and ratings had more than halved and they wanted to try other formats. Mind you what followed, Celebrity Wrestling, was so hopeless and massacred by Doctor Who in the ratings it was moved to Sunday mornings to die.
I think Ice dragon1 was referring to the volume of comment expected, regardless of how TVUK rates.
With Kylie gone, the show facing potentially more formidable ITV competition than Splash! was last year (plus in the same genre), and audiences generally in decline, I think there is little doubt that the launch show's overnight average is going to be well down on last year's 8.4m/35%.
Yah I would agree with that. I would love it to rate better than that, but I really can't see it happening and as you said it's more then likely to be down. Still anything over 7mil will be good.

Anything over 7m would count as a success, for me. Under 6.4m would be 'bad' but not entirely surprising either. My prediction, therefore, is 6.7m.
So SITE was still geting reasonable ratings after 13 years.
Even longer than that - it started in summer 1990.
Casualty was still big enough in those days for ITV to schedule around it, so it looks anyway.
Ultimate Force with Ross Kemp passed me by at the time, but I saw re-runs heavily advertised on CBS Action recently. It's their highest-rating programme some weeks, occasionally going over 100k.
I too can't see The Voice matching last year's 8.4m. I think 8m+ would be excellent, and 7.5-8.0m would be good. 7.0-7.5m would be OK but below all of last year's auditions (bar the last one that faced Saturday Night Takeaway). Below 7m would be a poor start.
No idea what Stars in Their Eyes will get. Could be 3.5m, could be 6m. I think The Voice will definitely beat it, but it should be an improvement on Splash at least (which got 3.7m on the same night last year).

Those 10 year ago ratings look very good for a few shows, especially SITE, but then again, would just under 6m be considered good back then? It was probably a few million below average in 2005.
Look at Casualty, a monster! Just under 3m ahead of the next highest!

Yes its huge-before it was mauled by XF at its height. Its never recovered and is a shadow of its former self.
In respect of consolidated figures-did we ever get New Years Eve finals? (Especially the concert and fireworks)

To give an idea, Stars was 21st in the week for ITV with 5.78m, compared with The Bill on Wednesday and Thursday at 20:00, in 16th and 15th place, which had 6.71m and 6.73m respectively. Corrie that week was in the 12-13m range. The only LE in the ITV top 30 was the three Saturday shows, unless you count Celebrity Fit Club on the Tuesday at 20:00 (5.12m). Thing is, there was less room for LE with drama on ITV every night of the week, sometimes twice a night and almost all of it new:
Mon 21:00 - The Commander: 7.43m
Tue 21:00 - The Commander: 6.00m
Wed 21:00 - Distant Shores: 6.40m [dramedy]
Thu 21:00 - Taggart: 6.36m
Fri 20:30 - A Touch of Frost (r): 5.33m
Sat 21:15 - Ultimate Force: 5.33m
Sun 20:00 - The Royal: 8.31m, 21:05 - Midsomer Murders: 8.80m
plus The Bill twice a week at 20:00, plus the soaps. That was a lot of drama!
Look at Casualty, a monster! Just under 3m ahead of the next highest!
Only beaten on BBC One by EastEnders, on around 11-12m.
Casualty getting 9m+ just 10 years ago? How the mighty fall!
At least it's still going. Millionaire had fallen from 19m to 6m in six years and would decline to 2-3m before being axed last year. Casualty has run for far longer and at least isn't embarrassing itself.
I assume most of you will be watching TVUK tonight?
Personally if SITE is good then I hope its a success. If its poor then it deserves too flop. There always a chance though with these programmes that the ratings can underwhem. By this I mean I hope SITE does not become one of ITV's middling rating shows. Either be a complete flop or big hit. In between is too boring.
Casualty getting 9m+ just 10 years ago? How the mighty fall!
It didn't have such strong ITV competition then, BGT was two years off and TXF was finding its feet, and was regarded as one of the BBC's biggest shows.
Also the digital rollout didn't start until 2007 and over a third of homes still only had four channels, me included, so ratings would be higher due to a lack of choice for millions of people.
SITE heavily promoted..no megastar new coach or controversial promo that both drew in the audience last year...returning shows generally being down since this time last last year...a 1.7m decline would make this thread worth steering clear of for about a month but I see no reason to expect better. I'd be delighted with over 7m and 7.7m+ (i.e. more than Broadchurch???!) would make my year so far.
