The story is following the usual pattern. A restoration team member has denied the story is true (again) which is probably accurate as, even if episodes have been found, it's unlikely to be 106 episodes.
I think the key to this is discovering exactly who is supposed to have found the episodes. Until we know that then no denial will kill the story as we don't know whose word is definitive.
What a pity, now the beeb might well be forced into making a definitive statement to nail the coffin lid shut on this one. It was fun whilst it lasted.
I'm expecting the announcement of the recovered episodes to happen on the day of the anniversary itself. There is no smoke without fire they have been found.

Which if that was the case why did DWO have to make a fuss back in march.

The very last thing I would have thought, Moffatt will want all the attention on the anniversary episode.

And sadly, yes there is quite often smoke without fire.
Who exacty in the 1960's would have been doing that then? And what equipment would they have been using? And how would thry have got access to the epidodes in the first place to copy them?
Good question, I don't know but I do know that there were some early forms of video recorders around as it was with these they were able to recover a couple of lost Dad's Army episodes because someone had recorded them at the time of original broadcast. I don't know who done it or how it was done but it was.
I dont believe that they have found the 106 missing episodes of Doctor Who in Ethiopa. All them clips of those starving & malnourished Ethiopians and not once did you see them sat round the telly watching The Evil Of The Daleks. Its a load of rubbish.
If they were there, I bet they would have sold them for a load of much needed money!
Oh good grief, even the Mirror is clearly aware that this is a nonsense. For anyone wondering why they didn't ask the BBC for a statement, that'll be because they didn't want it denied. Why ruin your own traffic generating exclusive?

But they already have the word of some bloke who heard something from a friend. He even "revealed news of the discovery at the Wigtown Book Festival in Scotland last week."
Surely such meticulous research meets the gold standard of evidence?

Very sloppy journalism, it doesn't mention Miley Cyrus anywhere.
Keep popping into this thread...just in case. "Hope springs...." Haven't commented before.
So;
We're fans of this wonderful show, We want the rumours to have some foundation.
There is no evidence at all.
It sounds highly unlikely, but is of course not impossible. 'I was there' when 'Tomb....' rumours came to fruition. (That was a good day, popping into town to buy the VHS. )
I just can't see it, but even if one lost story turned up there'd be as much fist-pumping going on as the moment Zoe Ball said the name "Peter Capaldi" and I scared the dog with a "Yeessss!!" that surprised myself.
ie Think it's all pure wishful thinking. Would so like to be proven wrong.
Assume that's the majority's take on all of this. (Hmmm, my specialist subject..the bleedin' obvious. )

Can't say anything further, but it seems various outlets are reporting this now. As far as we've been told, it's not as many as 100.

This stuff is comedy gold! The People runs a report on a "My mate says..." anecdote, which is mentioned in the Sky News Press Preview. The Sky News coverage is then hailed by Ian Levine as if it's significant.
How many times has this rumour swallowed its own tail?

Delicate negotiations apparently. VERY delicate negotiations... So which ever way you look at it reporting all this stuff is pretty dumb actually.
So you believe every unfounded rumour without a shred of evidence to back it up? Must make life interesting.

Isn't that the Mirror article just cut and pasted?
Seems so.

Does anyone even know who 'Doctor Who expert Stuart Kelly' is?
Hmmm, well there's plenty of photos of him on the internet but I couldn't find anything linking him to Doctor Who other than these rumours.
Maybe the hoaxer got his name from this:
